Kindle fire, is it as good as the Hudl?

I wanted to get another Hudle this year but as they are have been discontinued I'm considering the fire which is currently £34.99. Are there major differences between the two?

Is the Fire as good to surf the web on? Are there any apps that cannot be loaded onto it? (For instance YouTube?) Sorry if these seem like odd/dumb questions, I just want some quick concrete answers before I buy.

I've bought a Fire (£34 in Tesco today, black Friday) but won't be trying it until Christmas. My understanding is that it doesn't have full access to the usual Google Play Store and is restricted. I don't know what it can't get though!

We had one till my dd lost it. It was fine. Its not android but amazon had a lot of free apps, as much as android. You can read books. Go on the Internet to watch stuff.its really good. Only thing is it has ads pop up. But you can pay an extra tenner to get rid of them. I'd say the hudl and kindle are equal performance wise.

all as far as I am aware you cant directly have a u tube account on it but you can access u tube in some way - ie people have said they can put u tube on it for dc.

Fire works off the Kindle store not Play so the range of apps differs.

Thanks for your replies and the food for thought guys. It seems a bit limited then. Don't think I'll be reading too many books on it (I like bound books too much) and I can't imagine I'll be watching any/many films on it as the screen seems far too small.

Hmm, not sure it's for me now, although it might be the way forward to shifting the DC off the PC and Hudl if I could load the games they like onto this (and find out how to load on YouTube) although l don't much like the idea of having to buy all the content from Amazon I give them enough money as it is

I did pick it up thinking it was an e-reader (despite the packaging clearly saying 'tablet') and only realised when I saw one out on display!

I don't use tons of apps so I expect to be able to use it as a reader (I use a Hudl with the Kindle app at the moment) and maybe a few things besides. I may have been hoping that it was restricted enough not to appeal to DD, although DH has now purchased a different tablet on offer today for her to use (full access to the usual goodies in the Play Store!).

I have a first edition kindle fire and don't like it much. I watch you tube via the browser. I much prefer the hudl it's such a shame they're being discontinued. Have a look around, there may be better android ones out there that use the google play store. That gives a better range of apps.
