what do you buy a 9 month old?

We are getting her a push along walker, bath toys and clothes as we will need to buy them anyway after christmas.

But everyone else keeps asking and I don't know what to suggest? Theres nothing she needs or wants..

Books.

You will use. And the more you have the less crackers you'll go when you are asked to read the same one for the 80th time (its amazing how some books fall behind the sofa occasionally).

Oo that would be good.. we have loads from 3 year old DS but you can never have too many books!

I'll see your 9 month old and raise you 2 month old (by Christmas) DS2 who needs nothing, because (a) he's 2 months old, (b) he just got a bunch of Being Born gifts and (c) he has a big brother who was First Grandchild on both sides of the family.

He'll get books for when he's much older (DS1 got a box set of TinTin his first Christmas), a picture for his bedroom wall, and a metric fucktonne of socks, as that's the main possession of DS1's that seem to be lost.

We'd probably just wrap existing stuff but DS1 (4) is both very observant and fiercely protective of his brother's interests!

We have the exact same problem! My sister is buying DS a few bits like weaning bibs and spoons (they've somehow vanished since DD!) someone on my thread suggested a load of snack type foods wrapped up so someone else is getting them. And my mum is stocking up the nappy cupboard! Practical things are the way to go! Are there any clothes you really want rather than need? I've asked for dungarees cos I love them, but he doesn't have any at the minute

Oh dear, 2 months! At least mine actually does stuff what about stuff for when he is 6 months old, teethers, bowls, spoons, clothes. Tummy time toys like that activity triangle thing I've seen everywhere? although if you're like me you kept baby toys from the first! or a jumperoo type thing if you like them for when he is a bit bigger?

The big brother is our problem here too, they notice everything!

Ha! Yes. I look at him and go 'hey, I could get you more places to sit and stare at stuff'. Except DS1 really had that market cornered, too...

You're right, I need to go through and see what we've lost of older kid stuff!

Best was a plastic photo album which I put pics of us all in and dds could chew till hearts content. Can't remember brand but think it was from boots or jojomamen bebe.

Tomy hide and squeak eggs.

Those toys that hook on buggy lamaze I think.

Jassy that was us last Xmas ds1 was 4 and ds2 was 5weeks and we did a stocking with weaning pots n spoons etc as we would need them eventually then brought some lamaze toys and some clothes to wrap that we would need.

This year ds2 has just turned one n had a toot toot garage and grandparents got him a toddler slide for summer. For Xmas he will have more toot toot and from family a little tikes table to share with ds1 and a rocker horse thing as we have the little tikes whale which he is too small for.

We have a ton of happyland, peppa pig, fireman Sam and octonaut toys boxed in garage for next year and year after but ds1 has a great memory when you really don't need him to so unsure if we can pass them off as Xmas n bday presents

There's toys you can get that make noises and they can look etc. Little Tikes have these ocean toys for babies sitting up, crawling.

They are simple but babies like simple things. I'm getting one as we also have an 8 month old this year!

I would suggest older aged toys. My dd got little people stuff for her 1st birthday. She's 3 now and still plays with it. My 10month ds plays with it now too. He loves the little people garage.

Marking place as mine will be 7.5 months and I'm a bit stumped too.

Only thing I've got him so far is a big bag of second hand plastic food off eBay, cos although one bit of coloured plastic is much the same as another for now (and he loves them all), I think we might get him a toy kitchen in a year or two and then the more kitchenny stuff he has for it the better.

Cats, one year that was DSs stocking. We wrapped each plastic fruit separately.

Our youngest got a lot of bits to add to sets we already had. Seemed to help DD feel they were now shared when she could pick out his train/duplo animals/little people. They are oo close in age for us to pass off DDs toys to DS. We used to rotate the toys we had out so we'd put away whichever thing was being added to for a couple of weeks before the big day.

We got lots of use out of the kids table and chairs.

Although it was quickly outgrown the little tykes slide was nice to have, and small enough to keep indoors. Usually easy to find a second hand bargain.
