One festive thing per day throughout December - who fancies it?

I've had a frankly shitty year and am really looking forward to Christmas.

I thought a non-stressful Christmassy activity a day would be lovely to prepare for December 25.

Anyone fancy joining in?

I'm planning a mix of easy crafts, some carols etc or some festive food and drink to make me feel more festive and less frazzled!

Lovely idea for a thread. I like the little but often strategy.

A quick summary of my little things December so far.

1st - Made the first batch of mince pies with DS
2nd - Helped DS to write and post his Christmas list to Santa
3rd - Signed the card and contributed to the collection for DS teacher.

Inspired my this thread I intend to get out my Christmas CD today. I have already written a list to do the first half of the Christmas food shop tomorrow. Basically I will be getting everything that is not perishable and ensuring I am well stocked on the essentials like toilet roll etc.

Look forward to hearing what the rest of you have been up to.

Today sorted out the pressies for 3 of my Great Nephews so that's all 13 Great Newphews and Great Nieces presents all done and just stuck on scrooge for me and our 2DDS to watch.

Such lovely activities everyone is doing!

Today (public service announcement) I ACTUALLY POSTED CHRISTMAS CARDS! For the first time since about 2009!

Also had a walk down through the Christmas markets on the South Bank which was very nice and not overly busy (about 9pm).

Also bought my work Secret Santa gift.

Went to nearby slightly smart market town with DH yesterday for coffee and cranberry & orange muffins and a mooch around their independent department store which was gorgeously decked out.

Picked up a few more bits and pieces inc funny cards for DD & DS and 3 more glass tree baubles. Last year I de-cluttered massively on Christmas stuff - loads of random tat collected over the years, can't even remember where half of it came from (we'd just downsized from family home to bijou cottage) so I'm trying to build up a nice collection of 'considered' baubles, iyswim. Just need to make sure we hang them high enough on tree to keep them safe from two naughty kitties!

Off to Christmas Fair in village hall later for mulled wine & yet more muffins.

ohtheholidays · 05/12/2015 09:16

We managed to get lots of the 5DC presents wrapped last night.

Need DH to get the stockings out of the attic today so I can get all the stockings sorted out once the children are all in bed tonight.

Off to DD's School for the Christmas Fayre today, she's really looking forward to it and her 3 big brothers and her big sister have all said they're come with her this year(first time in years)it should make for a lovely day.

BangBang you sound alot more organized than we are this year,we've only posted a handfull of cards so far.

Glassofwineneeded · 05/12/2015 18:23

We put up our tiny tree in our den today. It looks lovely and twinkly!
Tomorrow our big tree goes up in the lounge - tree decorating, Christmas music on, baileys on ice in hand - exciting!!

Vistaverde · 05/12/2015 19:36

It sounds like this weekend is a popular one for Christmas Fair's. I helped out at the one at my DS's school today. Hard work but lots of fun.

I have also sorted out my spare room so it now resembles a bedroom and not a dumping ground. I have also got the decorations down from the loft and put the tree up and the lights on. I will finish decorating tomorrow when my DS is back from his Dad's as he is desperate to "help".

bangbangprettypretty · 05/12/2015 21:23

Today I baked orange and lemon slices to put on the tree.

Tomorrow will be... Putting the tree up! Will do a really thorough clean with DH beforehand as everything seems to get filthy when it comes to time to take it down in January!

So far.........

I;ve hung up the wreath and we have the Advent Tree decoration (it's a tiny musical tree that we've had for years. One of our traditions that the DC will still continue without too much mithering Grin )

I've been out to the shops today, it;s busy but very Festive . Going out next week (London) so I can peruse all the lights and the Big Stores.

My DS birthday is tomorrow so we dont start anything too Christmassy till after that. We'll get the decorations out this week though.

I don't send cards (Scrooge Xmas Blush )

My DC don't have Christmas Fayres now.

I'm writing lists (in their 1000s)
Things to Buy
Things to Do (mainly tidying)
Things to Cook (cake and puddings are done, I don't like cooking and freezing so I'll do most of it a couple of days before at most)

Nice Christmas Things-
I've washed the Christmas hand towels (I didn't realise I had so many , been adding to them each year)
DD has her fleece on her bed and I have the fleeces and cushions for the sofa ready.

Ordered DDs Nutella label

Today, I did a Nice Thing and handed in a phone I found

Lovely to think that in various homes across the land something festive is happening each day Warm glow reading this thread for me after a stressful day yesterday

ohtheholidays · 06/12/2015 16:58

Nice time at the Schools Christmas fayre yesterday, hot chocolate with marshmallows and cream,Chritsmas muffins, sweets,Christmas crafts, games played and the children managed to win some prizes including a brand new toy that's selling in the shops for £20 at the moment.Bought some lovely Christmas chains for the children's rooms(Stokings and Reindeer one's and Snowman one's)going to put those up for them today.

Not long back from town, went in with our 2DD's 8 and 12,Oldest DD bought some lovely presents for her friends, her Dad and her 3 big brothers and youngest DD bought lovely gifts for her Dad and her 3 big brothers. We had a look round at lots of shops, saw all the lights lit up everywhere and then I took them out for lunch at the Handmade Burger Co,first time the girls had been and they loved it.

Picked up 2 large boxes of Krispy Kreme doughnuts to bring home for everyone to share.

DH stayed at home with our 3DS,they all worked out, played some games and then DH took them all to Mcdonalds for lunch.

A busy but very nice weekend,I hope everyone else's has been good. Smile

bangbangprettypretty · 06/12/2015 18:22

Ahh glad you're enjoying the thread Comfort!

I didn't manage to get the tree up today as I'd hoped but can do it tomorrow - felt like a bit of downtime was in order as I feel a bit tired.

But I finished making some orange slice decorations and then made some hot spiced gin as we have people over next weekend so wanted a practice run! We have blitzed the house so it's absolutely spick and span, and I've lit an oil burner with spiced vanilla oil too which is making the place smell gorgeously festive! I put the leftover baked orange peel in a little glass dish and lit a tealight on top so it's adding a bit of citrus too.

This weekend I've read a Christmassy women's fiction book too which has got me feeling all romantic and wintry!

Went to a Christmas party today Xmas Grin Had a wonderful time! Definitely feeling festive now!!

Also have washed my Christmas tea towels and my one and only Christmas hand towel. Am seriously considering getting more.

randomcatname · 06/12/2015 19:35

Is it a problem than my christmas activity every day appears to be drinking prossecco and listening to christmas tunes? Xmas Blush

bangbangprettypretty · 06/12/2015 20:30

Ha Random that is definitely under the banner of Christmas prep!!

OP posts:
randomcatname · 06/12/2015 21:00

So pleased to hear it! Hic! Xmas Grin

Vistaverde · 06/12/2015 21:44

That sounds like my type of Christmas preparation Random !!

I am jealous of those of you who have Christmas bedding, fleeces etc. I have 2 hand towels and that's it.

Today I have finished my Christmas present shopping. However, I seem to have misplaced my sister's present. I put it somewhere safe I just can't remember where that place is. I'm hoping that if I don't think about it for a few days it will either turn up or I'll remember where I put it.

bangbangprettypretty · 07/12/2015 08:25

Today is my first 'organised' festive activity, with a work carol concert later.

It was really lovely last year so I'm looking forward to it!
