I've had a frankly shitty year and am really looking forward to Christmas.

I thought a non-stressful Christmassy activity a day would be lovely to prepare for December 25.

Anyone fancy joining in?

I'm planning a mix of easy crafts, some carols etc or some festive food and drink to make me feel more festive and less frazzled!

Had my first Christmas lunch today with a lovely group of ladies - we all volunteer for the same charity - the stuffing that came with the turkey was delicious but I managed to get it down my Christmas jumper Blush

Meant to say bangbang - that Kate Bush song is on my Mum's Christmas CD! Went to sleep singing it last night (not literally, that would be hideous, but in my head Grin

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 02/12/2015 18:25

Have an orange, a length of ribbon, a couple of cocktail sticks and a jar of cloves. I thought I'd have a go at making a pomander type decoration, how hard can it be? Confused Grin

shutupandshop · 02/12/2015 18:27

I watched dd3 in her nativity today.

FabFlo · 02/12/2015 18:35

Let me know donkey because I am thinkibg of making them with my DC ShockGrin

UntamedShrew · 02/12/2015 18:46

Love this! Had nativity yesterday. Just did humongous online order for assorted small people but it fr a bit soulless - more admin than festive.

Xmas candle and a baileys film tonight might help I guess?

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 02/12/2015 18:50

Stupid question, do you think they'll last beyond a fortnight? Maybe I'm jumping the gun? - Not that I'm stingy or anything...!

Glassofwineneeded · 02/12/2015 18:53

They probably won't past that long - maybe only a week at most but will smell lovely and you can use this as a practice for nearer the time.

Cookingongas · 02/12/2015 19:49

Yesterday we wrote our letters to Father Christmas - warm Christmassy feelings all round.

Today we were supposed to make festive biscuits, but dc were so awfully behaved it was called off- uncheistmassy feelings. But I preserved- put dc to bed and make hairy bikers Christmas pudding vodka. Xmas Grin Christmas cookies back on for tomorrow

Parrish · 02/12/2015 19:53

Yesterday I made an advent calendar for the kids and hung it up. They love it. Today I made stained glass window biscuits for the tree and them. good idea to spread out the Christmas jobs!

randomcatname · 02/12/2015 20:33

This is a lovely thread. I need all the inspiration I can get this year so will be checking in regularly.

Missanneshirley · 02/12/2015 20:39

Today I went to work, cane home, fed and bathed children. When they are asleep I will tidy up then do some work then go to bed. Where are you all getting all of this TIME? !

Melawen · 02/12/2015 21:02

I've been surprisingly Christmassy- the usual advent chocs for DD, a Yankee candles advent calendar for me, Christmas music in the car, and currently sitting here in winter 'jama trousers with a Snow much love t-shirt with a penguin on it!! (Not to mention that I bought DDs Angel costume today!!)

bangbangprettypretty · 02/12/2015 21:52

Donkey the pomander should last as long as it's hung up so it gets air to it!

The Kate Bush song is such a fab Christmas song, I love it!

Tonight I've done 12 Christmas cards and listened to Pink Martini's lovely Christmas album while doing it!

To the PP who was asking where the time came from, I've whizzed through the housework to get 20 mins of peace for festive tasks this evening.

OP posts:
bangbangprettypretty · 02/12/2015 21:54

Oh and tomorrow I think I might finish the Christmas cards and make a pomander too!

Xmas Grin Wore my Christmas jumper, Christmas scarf, Christmas socks and Christmas nails to work today for a you guessed it Christmas party day where my aforementioned cakes went down very well! Cake

This evening I have wrapped the DCs presents, so I'm finished all bar two- one has yet to be delivered; the other needs to be finished off!!! (Photo calendar!) Xmas Smile Feeling very on top of things this year!

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 03/12/2015 07:30

Thanks for advice, I might still leave the pomander another wwek, they do shrink over time. Have realised a knitting needle would be better than a cocktail stick!

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 03/12/2015 07:34

In the meantime does anyone else like pancakes, one friend used to do Santa faces with little marshmallows for the hair and beard and raisin eyes and a glace cherry nose. Not sure if it's Christmassy or just sugar overload Wink.

Glassofwineneeded · 03/12/2015 14:33

Today I wrapped up all the stocking presents - feeling very festive!

randomcatname · 03/12/2015 14:45

Me and ds stuck snowflakes on our windows this morning and it's cheered me up no end, despite the rain pissing down all day.

Also just listened to that Kate Bush song and it was perfect until it rolled right into Cliff Richard

chandeliertinseltwirler · 03/12/2015 16:23

Bought a new bargain Christmas film for our traditional "Christmas Eve DVD and treats" time. Has made me feel fabulously festive!

Nutella jars arrived in shopping delivery today so I can finally use the personalised labels I got for the DCs. I also bought some mini croissants and Christmas tree shaped crumpets, so the plan is to have a festive breakfast at the weekend! Xmas Smile

Is it cheating to do two days at once?! Xmas Wink

bangbangprettypretty · 03/12/2015 20:33

Definitely not cheating to do two days at once! bangs Tinselly gavel Just go at your own pace.

Weirdly I feel like I'm getting more done than usual Decembers, today I made a pomander and am finishing my Christmas cards while listening to Handel's Messiah and drinking a hot chocolate made for me by DH!

Definitely feeling festive! I may even attempt baking over the weekend.

Second view it's not cheating Grin I felt I had bags of time until 4ish this afternoon. Suddenly realised lots to do.

bangbangprettypretty · 03/12/2015 23:16

Tomorrow I'll attempt the Jack Monroe cardboard wreath from her website!

What a lovely idea for a thread.

I've also had a really shitty year and am far behind for Christmas this year and been struggling to get excited about it all which is unheard of for me.So hope this thread helps. Smile

Sunday(I know it wasn't quite December)me and oldest DS19 went and did some Christmas shopping(a tradition every year the 5DC like me to go and help them choose what they want to buy for they're siblings and for they're Dad)DS paid for lunch in Miller and Carters(his treat to me)we had a gorgeous 3 course meal and tried some new cocktails(felt those when the fresh air hit us) Grin DH took the our 2DDS into town, they bought me some lovely gifts to have that day and bought my Christmas present I was told.
I bought a large box of Crispy creme doughnuts home from town for everyone.

The 1st the children all came downstairs to they're advent calendars.Oldest DS 19 and 17 both have hotel chocolat one's(they love the chocolate from there)DS14 has got a Star wars lego one(ordered one last year got charged and it never turned up)he was over the moon and both DD's 12 and 8 have the Lindt assorted one's(they're the best of all of them I think)they're really excited about they're one's.

The 2nd big food shop and managed to get DH another present and picked up 2 minions electric toothbrushes for both DD's stockings and a star wars electric one that makes noises and lights up for DS14.Bought some more gifts for FILs and MILs cats, our dogs and our cat.Wrapped some presents once the children were in bed.

The 3rd found a lovely gift for youngest DD,wrapped and sent of presents for MIL,FIL,they're cats,4 great nieces and nephews and cards wrote and sent for MIL,FIL and 2 nieces familys and Fil's other presents ordered and sent.

ohtheholidays · 04/12/2015 02:02

Forgot picked up Letters for Santa yesterday in Toys r us.The two girls have wrote they're letters and stuck festive stickers onto the envelopes.
