do you want to use shortcrust or puff pastry?
Shortcrust is half fat to flour - use an egg and milk to mix to a dough and leave to rest for an hour in the fridge before rolling. Use butter if you want lovely rich pastry - brush with egg and milk before baking ... HTH!

sub some of the flour for ground almonds tastes divine and makes the pastry shorter.

My mother uses a pear mince meat that is wonderful.

we have a big pot of mincemeat that dh made last October , he is determined to use it to make our mince pies this year. I'm not so sure (leaving aside for a moment the fact that we don't have an oven..)

Aah well now Greeny, call me traditional, but an oven usually helps in these matters.

I've told him that, but he remains determined - we did manage to produce a batch of mince pies using the grill and lots of ingenuity last year!
