Ds hasn't expressed the remotest interest in a Wii and doesn't even know what one is (it's a new games console for anyone who doesn't know, release date today) but we have one for him for Christmas, which arrived today. Ds will totally love it, as will dh.

But they're selling for ?500 odd on ebay, so that's a ?300 profit, shall I flog it and get ds something else? And get dh a Wii after Christmas when they're ?180 again?

Votes please, what would you do? (we don't need the cash as such but it's SUCH an easy ?300, that's my car insurance for the YEAR!)

this happens every year though, it was pink ds's last year, people werwe selling argos reserve codes on ebay last year for £50+, now that was easy money/

nutcracker · 08/12/2006 18:28

I just think it's unfair when people who really want one can only afford to pay the shop price and miss out cos people buy them just to sell (not saying you did www).

It's the same with concert tickets.

Pinkchampagne · 08/12/2006 18:28

Think I would be very tempted to sell it!

foxinsocks · 08/12/2006 18:30

yes I agree oh nutty one

I think they should ban concert tickets on there - seems ridiculous really

years and years ago, when furbys were first out and trading for ridiculous prices (before ebay i think about £100+) i was passing a toy shop just as they got delivery. i got one, and thought about selling it, but kept it. for ages afterwards i wish i had sold it as it drive me mad!!

fifi26 · 08/12/2006 18:33

I would keep it, like others have said your ds will be over the moon. Especially if he's the only one amongst his friends to actually have one.

ellesbellsringsoutforchristmas · 08/12/2006 18:50

GodRestYeMerryPebblemum · 08/12/2006 19:34

I think your on a winner no matter what you decide

If you keep it you will be be the best mum in the world, your ds will be one of the coolest boys in school as i doubt if many of his friends will have one and your Dh will be extremely happy (you may not get either dh or ds off of it over the Christmas period but at least it would be nice and peaceful, you could shove them upstairs in ds's bedroom

On the other hand if you sell it you will have £300 to spend on other things and ds will be none the wiser. You could use the money to buy him a couple more presents, Dh a consolation prize (men are like kids and i expect he will sulk for a bit so will need a little sweetener) and you could treat yourself And it would give you something to buy ds for his birthday (or Dh)

Not sure what i would do though, the money would be good but so would the joy on ds (and dh's) face come Christmas morning. Glad i didnt get one now

mysonsmummy · 08/12/2006 23:40

been watching them on e-bay and quite a lot are going for £280 - £300 now so make sure you put the high reserve on it.

expatinscotland · 08/12/2006 23:41

what's a WII?

If I could flog anything for that much profit, I would.

Nemoinapeartree · 08/12/2006 23:47

whya re you even asking..sell the damn thing and reap the profits..especially if nobody is expecting it..put away the cost of a new one for when they are all back in stock by feb.

FLAMEinEckItsYuleAgain · 09/12/2006 00:06

Yay Nutty - you think along the same lines as I do.

It doesn't matter who's fault/decision it was in the first place that they are in short supply before christmas - the fact is there are, and people buying them to sell on ebay just feels wrong.

unknownrebelbang · 09/12/2006 00:28

I'm with Flame.

I wouldn't blame anyone for making easy money like this, but it doesn't feel right to me.

Your Wii, your choice.

fifi26 · 09/12/2006 09:36

Have you decided yet WWW?

wickedwinterwitch · 09/12/2006 09:47

Hello, well dh came round to the idea but only at £500, we're not interested in selling it for £300, it's not worth the hassle involved in getting something new for ds for £115

and the price seems to have dropped on ebay as you say so I'd only do it with a 500 reserve. (I didn't buy it just to sell btw!)

GlennCloseAsCruellaDeVille · 09/12/2006 10:15

just watched a batch of these going on ebay

with various different permutations of package

  1. 330, 304.11,359,401,311,379,310,350,303

so not such a huge amount now

FLAMEinEckItsYuleAgain · 09/12/2006 10:16

Oh, sorry, my little rant was at those buying to sell I got so carried away I forgot what the start of the thread was!
