Have you posted a letter to santa?

My dd 5 made a card for santa tonight, it reads

"Dear Santa Claus

thankyou for the telescope" ( that he brought her last year), a pic of herself,in the north pole, carrying a gift to santa(wrapped in angel paper, it is seemingly a present wrapper)...... then on the back she wrote " I want a barbie horsey, love D

I suggested that santa might want to bring something else, but she said that is ALL she would like....

I wondered what other dc might be writing? do you really post them, this is a priceless work of art to me, after dd started school in August and was very loathe to even write her own name, so should I send santa an e-mail? I would like Santa to respond, but thinking of buying one of those letters online.....

Send it to:

Father Christmas, Reindeerland, SAN TA1

For the cost of a normal stamp your dd will get a letter back from Santa (courtesy of the Royal Mail). Last year (I think... could have been the year before) they got a snow scene with stickers along with the card... really cool, and far cheaper than those letters online.

well yes I know where to send it....

just thought there might be room for a general discussion, thank you anyway

We posted one in the John Lewis postbox- says will get personalised reply.

DD drew a picture of a ballerina for Santa, bless. I did wish I could keep it.

She dictated a letter to me and then signed her name 'and Santa must have lots of kisses, Mummy'.

SlightlyMadSanta · 07/12/2006 22:40

We leave ours in their stockings and Santas fairies come and collect them.

SnowMuchToBits · 07/12/2006 22:41

I think you should photocopy those fabulous letters if you intend to post them. They're far too special to forget!
I teach Primary 1 and we emailed Santa at school today. the look on their faces when the email magically appeared before their eyes was priceless. Primary 7 helped them to fill out the forms and print out their letter to take home.

hullabaloo · 07/12/2006 22:56

emailsanta www.emailsanta.com is fab!

GiraffeGotTheLastRoomInTheInn · 07/12/2006 22:59

Yes you're right, but we will be leaving another letter on xmas eve along with the carrot etc which Santa can keep

chocolaterobin · 07/12/2006 23:12

dd rings santa on christmas eve before he sets off, this is great as he also tells her she must go straight to bed! She loves the fact he knows so much about her and remembers her from last year. Very authentic.

RubberDuckWithCranberrySauce · 08/12/2006 06:22

Sorry, was just pointing out that those bought online are a big fat con...

(mutters something about not bothering to be helpful in future)

piximon · 08/12/2006 09:59

I'd say photocopy/scan/photograph the work of art. If you make a xmas scrap book you can stick in a copy.

notreallyhereDee · 08/12/2006 10:02

rubberduck it was helpful to me!

noogles · 08/12/2006 10:55

Thanx rubberduck. I wanted the address for a reply but couldnt find it xx I think the emails take the tradition and fun away personally of writing a letter (sorry )

noogles · 08/12/2006 11:00

Sorry rubberduck, but how did you find that address? We have searched the net everywhere as I used to get replies when I was younger but I couldnt find the address?

TinsellyRhino · 08/12/2006 11:01

we haven't done that but we will be sending one up the chimney on xmas eve

RubberDuckWithCranberrySauce · 08/12/2006 11:09

I've had it for years - it's buried on the Royal Mail site somewhere but they hide it well. It's also been listed on the Money Saving Expert site too this year, I think.

noogles · 08/12/2006 11:11

Thanks again xx We will be sending it today xx

RubberDuckWithCranberrySauce · 08/12/2006 11:12

Money Saving Expert - oops, postcode is SAN 1TA not TA1 sorry...

RubberDuckWithCranberrySauce · 08/12/2006 11:14

(although I've sent it to SAN TA1 for the last 3 years without any problems )

noogles · 08/12/2006 11:17

OOOH Im really excited now lol> What a big kid I am !!!

singsalot · 08/12/2006 12:51

sorry rubberduck, didn't mean to be so rude/abrupt, if that is how I came across, still learning, have only really lurked on here for a year, so you are right about the commercial side of the santa letters, but then i think how delighted my dd might be, we went on the santa.com website and she was so chuffed to see her name on the nice list, really made her think it was real, if I had a printer I would make my own santa reply letter, but it would take me three weeks, cause I am crap with technology and it would still look naff, I am considering photo copying her art work/letter

where do these letters end up and are they eventually landfill?

OP posts:
RubberDuckWithCranberrySauce · 08/12/2006 12:59

Lol, that's okay - was feeling abrupt myself this morning Consider it end-of-the-week blues...

No idea where the letters end up. I think they're actually "processed" somewhere in Belfast (but can't remember where I read that).

GlowormsMakeNiceXmasLights · 08/12/2006 13:20

We used santasearch last night and DS, age 4, got a lovely email back from Jingles the elf. I think he will also get an email from Santa at some point as well.

if you put in your own email address they will sent you a copy of the letter he wrote.
