playmobil, sylvanian or barbie house?

DD is 6, and I can't decide! I am against the barbie house (pricey n plastic) so was thinking of one of the wooden kidkraft ones. But she has seen playmobil and sylvanian families ads this weekend and seems interested. I always wanted sylvanian as a child and never had it so was leaning that way! Anyone got any reviews?Smile

Both playmobil and sylvanians are great, dd prefers playmobil but all kids are different. We have a generic wooden house and then anyone can live in it. I love the playmobil people and things like the camping car but bigger things like the houses and stuff tend to be really, really fiddly and fall apart a fair bit.

I would say leave the Sylvanians for another year or two - they're incredibly small, fiddly and at times, frustrating. My DD got some for her 8th birthday and I'm glad I held off. They cost a lot of money and we certainly haven't had our moneys worth yet. Even at 8.5yo they can send her loopy with frustration.

She got a Barbie Dreamhouse for Christmas last year and she spends hours playing with it. One of the best things I've ever bought, despite the £180 price tag Sad It's actually pretty sturdy once it's up and has lots of features. I cannot put into words how much my DD loves it.

No experience with Playmobil. Never had any.

I would go with generic house then maybe buy a small set each of play mobil and sylvannians. If she likes them u can add to it next year, in the meantime they can live in the dolls house :)

Playmobil all way. We had a generic dollshouse and some Sylvanians, and they all got good use, but the Playmobil lasted the longest and allowed for the most flexible play. It's very sturdy, good value and much entertained the DC from age 2 (burgling elder siblings games) - about 11/12 when they outgrew toys.

I also agree about Sylvanians being fiddly. The tiny bits are very cute but they do get lost (Playmobil tiny bits are else tiny).

Playmobil! Smile

You can use it to interact with any other type of Playmobil. So your Playmo house residents can also go on holiday in their Playmo camper van, get stopped by the Playmo police, be rescued by the Playmo ambulance etc, etc...

And the Playmobil dragons, knights and trebuchets (DS) can lay total waste to the Playmnobil playground (DD).

Playmobil, definitely.

Playmobil every time - we have a lot of both and DD 8.5 plays with Playmobil far more than Sylvanians. Favourites are definately the hotel and small pony farm. She is lusting after the Large pony farm but also lots of Lego so have just bought some small sets this year.

MissHoney15 · 08/11/2015 13:21

Ok I'm off the sylvanian idea (blub). I just don't want another Lego 'situation' as I got her the Lego Disney sets last year. She loves Lego but the sets are not for her. We have a half built Cinderella castle and rapunzel tower as she never builds them back up and doesn't play with them once built. I was thinking of the playmobil fantasy castle?

Nearlyadoctor · 08/11/2015 14:13

I think I bought Sylvanians more for me than dd, never had them as a child...

MummyDuckAndDuckling · 08/11/2015 16:22

My DD received a lot of the sylvanian family stuff for her 3rd birthday and loves it! Her dad (we are not together) then bought another set for Christmas last year and more for her 4th birthday this year. She loves it and can easily sit for a few hours setting it up then playing about. I agree that it can be fidily but we have a box that all the bits are put back into so nothing really gets lost.
We don't have any playmobil so can't really compare it, but sylvanian family is a favourite here

123Jump · 08/11/2015 16:36

Playmobil website is really good as you can order any lost bits.
We have now or two Sylvanian sets too, and my boys loved playing with them too, but the Playmobil was a real winner.
Torn between the camping stuff and the farm this year...

Iv got 2 dd, 5yrs and almost 3yrs. I have bought them both a wooden doll house both different I picked up in second hand shops and I am going to decorate to each personality. I have picked up some Sylvanian families furniture and other types. For Xmas they are both getting playmobil and sylvanian families and both can be played with in the houses as well as other figures they have. They have some Sylvanian babies at the moment and love them so that's what they have asked more of. They have never played with playmobil but I have got them some different sets to see- advent calenders each (workshop &I fairy unicorn land) and my 3yr is getting fairy case and 5yr old devil, Dracula and animal packs (she's my wee goth lol) I'm sure both types will be played with.
So you could get a generic doll house and bits & bobs for both sylvanians and playmobil then you would see if she liked both or preferred one type.

SoMuchToBits · 08/11/2015 16:40

Playmobil is much more robust than Lego for playing with.

Ds had both, and used them in very different ways. The Lego mostly for building and recombining.

The Playmo for setting up scenes and playing with. He's nearly 15 and still gets his Playmo out - we currently have a bunch of police on the dining table...

LucilleBluth · 08/11/2015 17:29

5 yo DD got the Playmobil fairy castle last year, she hasn't touched it really, it's very very fiddly. She's getting the Barbie Mailbu house this year. It's £50 on Amazon right now, down from £99.

MissHoney15 · 08/11/2015 20:38

Decided on kidkraft house and playmobil vet clinic. Thought a smaller playmobil set to see how she likes it. Plus a welcome departure from princesses!

Thanks Smile

I bought mine a small set of each (playmobil and sylvanian) to see which they liked best before I bought more.
Somehow I have now ended up with cities of both!
