Lucy and Tom at Christmas

I have read lovely reviews of this book on MN and had started to look out for it in used book shops as I believe it was out of print for a while.
Anyway, it's been reprinted and is currently £3.99 at the Book People.
Every year DH and I buy and write a message in a nice book for DS as a present on Christmas Eve- hoping this year this can be it.

I have very fond memories of that book as a child :)

I used to do that - DH did a clear out one day he was off and I was at work and passed all "the outgrown" books on to various neighbours!!

I'm doing Christmassy books at the moment- DS is 3- so far we've had Jolly Christmas Postman and Mog's Christmas. As he grows I'm hoping to do nice books like Narnia, Harry Potter, the Hobbit etc. things I loved as a child.

Nothing, it's pointless, I just should have hidden them better. I knew he had form.

Quite often he'd decide that the kids were too grown up for a toy and give it away and they'd come home wondering why the child up the street was playing with their favourite toy!

Though you'd have thought that the neighbours might have come to me and asked whether it was really ok for them to have a book inscribed "To our most precious and gorgeous boy on his very first Christmas" etc

It's one of my favourites. If you like it, do you have Hughes other Christmas books? I like Angel Mae, The Snow Lady, The Christmas Eve Ghost, Tales By the Fireside, Alfie's Christmas in particular.

Christmas on Exeter Street by Diana Hendry is similarly lovely.
Sven Nordqvist's Tomtes' Christmas Porridge I like too.

I could go on for hours actually. I collect vintage children's Christmas books.

We have Alfie's Christmas. DS loves Alfie. They are well written and he can relate to them. We have a nice set called the Nursery Collection but nothing else Christmassy. Will keep an eye out for those others- I'm doing DS a book advent this year I think.

Can I vote for Kipper's Snowy Day? - technically not Christmas but lovely :)

We had quite a few Kipper books but can't recall that one :) I have a beautiful stuffed Kipper in the loft that I DS1 can't part with.

showof DS1 ( aged 23) was talking about Christmas in Exeter St the other day. It would make a great cartoon. We also loved Harvey Schlumfenberger's Christmas by John Burningham. Happy days.

It would make a fabulous cartoon wouldn't it? It's a very gentle book and I like the theme.

I adore Christmas books. I won't tell you how many copies of The Night Before Christmas I have.

Ours loved The Owl and the Star which we read to them every Christmas.

Kipper's Christmas Eve with flashing hat is the best Kipper surely?!

I love my Christmas children's books stash. They come out even before the decorations go up at the beg of Dec and we have more than enough for an Book Advent. Doesn't stop me buying a book for each DD every year, and thanks to the bargainous Tom & Lucy and a find of an Axel Scehffler Christmas poems I'll be buying myself 2 this year

LOVE this book. I bought it second hand, but our Sainsbury's had them in last week.

DS is very impressed that Tom gets R2D2 and there are Dr Who toys in it .

I've spent two years trying to find Lucy and Tom's Christmas, all I could find were ones on amazon for £30+ until this summer when I got one for £2.50 incl postage. An ex library book. Amd now it's been reprinted?! Pah! Ah well, the copy I have is fine.

The reason I've been searching is because it was THE Christmas book when I was little. I read it to DD and gasped when I turned the pages as the pictures are so intertwined with memories of Christmas when I was wee.
