Hand-knitted socks as presents for teachers?

Is this a good idea, or a bit weird? I am a good knitter, and use good quality sock wool. They are nice, chunky boot or bed socks.

Mmn....I would love it, personally. On the other hand, it will take you lots of time, be quite expensive, and not necessarily be appreciated. It would naff me off if people didn't appreciate the effort involved but I'm a miserable witch

I think not. It would be far cheaper and much, much easier to buy a box of chocs, and they'd probably go down better. Sorry - I'm a teacher and would find it a bit odd, much as I like socks!

As a spinner and weaver, I would really appreciate the time and effort. There are a lot of people who don't though =/

Also a teacher here and, while I appreciate the thought behind any gift I receive, I'm not sure I'd have the sort of reaction you might like me to have. I would definitely appreciate the effort you'd gone to, but I probably wouldn't ever wear the socks.

Gloves yes, socks... no.

Don't do it ! That's such a huge time investment. I only knit socks if I'm sure the recipient will love them and that I can get them to check the fit etc.

Fingerless gloves are my go to gift. Much more likely to be appreciated and used and a lot less effort :)

What about minature stockings for a Christmas tree? Or a mug cosy? Or a knitted nativity figure?

A keen knitter myself I would love socks from one of my pupils, but I agree that fingerless gloves are more likely to be a universal success.
