She's got Cranium which we all like playing but looking for another board game we can all enjoy.

Any ideas?

We like Forbidden Island, and if you're interested in a card game, we like Fluxx. Our family ranges from 5yo to 33yo, and we all genuinely enjoy playing both these games. and am glad the kids have finally moved on from Orchard Games.

biscuitkumquat · 05/11/2015 22:03

Have you tried Uno Extreme?

We love that in our house

Kuriusoranj · 05/11/2015 22:59

We play games every Sunday with our 9 year old. We like Pandemic, Forbidden Island, Settlers of Catan, Risk and Fluxx. We have Exploding Kittens arriving at Christmas but haven't played it yet.

The first 2 in my list are good for this age IMO because they are co-operative - so everybody wins, or everybody loses. It's a good way to get them engaged in the good parts of games - turn taking, strategic thinking, having non-electronic fun! - without expecting them to cope with (fairly frequently) losing.

labyrinth

Bimblywibble · 05/11/2015 23:43

Cluedo is the most universally liked game here. The others like Monopoly and Carcasonne but I don't, Forbidden Island is great for 3 but gets a bit samey with 2. DC are nearly 7 and nearly 9.

I'm soooo with Bluepancakes about Orchard Games.

AnneOfCleavage · 06/11/2015 15:08

I second Labyrinth and also suggest ticket to ride or yahtzee Smile

FattyNinjaOwl · 06/11/2015 15:11

We love scrabble here. Us grown ups go easy on the 7 year old though. My 13 yo DB plays when he comes. Usually when my DCs are in bed. That's because he enjoys trying to make rude words though Hmm

SurelyYoureJokingMrFeynman · 06/11/2015 15:16

Carcassonne South Sea version has gone down very well with my family of that age.

It's described as less cut-throat than the main versions, and I'd say that's right.

Tri-onimos - triangular shaped dominos game.
Some Lego games are good too.

Orangeanddemons · 06/11/2015 21:40

Scrabble here too. 9 year old dd is a demon at it. She regularly thrashes her father!

lavendersun · 06/11/2015 22:22

We definitely have the most fun with Cluedo with DD (9) here - hilarious, involves a bit of very bad acting most games Smile.

lambfam · 06/11/2015 22:24

Another vote for Labyrinth - one of the best games ever. So simple but so clever and seems to keep all ages happy

StompyFreckles · 06/11/2015 22:33

We have monopoly empire and we all love it.

Happyminimalist · 06/11/2015 22:41

Forbidden dessert, pandemic, small world, monopoly.

My 8 year old son plays adult Catan, don't buy the junior version. Labyrinth is suitable for younger children. Cluedo isn't as exciting as my newer games.

Bimblywibble · 07/11/2015 00:34

Forbidden dessert - are you dieting?! Grin

Have you got a recent version of Cluedo Happy? It's the only classical game I've come across which has been improved in the re-issue. New Operation and Buckaroo were big disappointments.

Our 6 year old doesn't like the murder bit so we have to pretend they are bopping the victim on the head with the dagger shaped balloon etc... I think it's funny anyway.

Llareggub · 07/11/2015 00:47

Another vote for labyrinth here. I think I shall cry if I ever have to see another Monopoly board; my 9 year old loves it.

That said, he's bit of a card shark and likes chess too. Maybe the old ones are the best.

I thought he'd like Risk but we can't get our heads around the instructions.

Absolute favourite in our house is Frustration

Happyminimalist · 07/11/2015 07:18

Small world is a much more interesting version of risk

Happyminimalist · 07/11/2015 07:19

I think the modern clue do is better and has a two player aspect also

Justasmallgless · 07/11/2015 07:30

Great game of Britain
Our favourite well mine is downfall which isn't strictly a board game!

StompyFreckles · 07/11/2015 09:22

I can't stand monopoly, but do highly recommend monopoly empire - much quicker and totally different!
We also really like Star Wars angry birds frustration.
I have bought game of life for Dd for Christmas and will take a look at labyrinth as that seems very popular!
