She's got Cranium which we all like playing but looking for another board game we can all enjoy.

Any ideas?

Stompy as a lone monopoly-hater in this house, that is v interesting to hear. Can you tell me what you hate about monopoly and why you like monopoly empire?

I too am off to google labyrinth.

RingDownRingUp · 07/11/2015 21:18

Absolute favourite here is Ticket to Ride

Also excellent is Station Master.

I like both and I loathe most board games.

StompyFreckles · 07/11/2015 22:13

I have never got on with monopoly and I am not really great with many games tbh - I tend to lose interest quickly Blush. With monopoly Empire, you each have a tower that you need to fill with your purchases of brands (from XBox to My Little Pony) - I found the game fun and often quite quick!

Bimblywibble · 07/11/2015 22:20

Thanks Stompy!

Girlwithnotattoos · 07/11/2015 22:20

Labyrinth is great, easy to play different every time and you need a bit of thinking power too. My DS still loves it and I bought it 3 years ago. ????

Taytocrisps · 07/11/2015 22:51

Game of Life is very popular here, as well as Family Fortunes.

There's a Game of Life Fame edition game also but it's not as good as the original Game of Life.

StompyFreckles · 08/11/2015 14:44

After googling labyrinth, I do remember playing it as a child and thinking it was great - I have popped it in to my Amazon basket!

chaplin1409 · 08/11/2015 16:28

Thanks for this thread I have ordered on the argos 3 for 2 Labyrinth, Game of life and Junior Cranium.

applecrumbleandcream · 08/11/2015 16:40

Don't know whether it's been mentioned but Rapidough is a fab family game, it's not a board game though sorry.

carrie74 · 10/11/2015 11:20

Mine love:
Game of Life
Monopoly
Apples to Apples
Yahtzee

We buy a new game for Xmas and this year it's Cluedo (and a local Monopoly board for my parents as it's just been released and apparently has my old school on it).

LimboNovember · 10/11/2015 11:58

Dobble
Uno
Sleeping queens

Monopoly
Qwirkle ( excellent won loads of awards)

and looking to buy ticket to ride.

the game we all HATE is Labryinth!! DD is very bright but finds it frustrating

I cant bear it and neither can DH.

AlbusPercival · 10/11/2015 13:00

Exploding kittens would be awesome, as long as it is not the NSFW edition of course Grin

AnnPerkins · 10/11/2015 13:06

Sorry to hijack but has anyone got the Trivial Pursuit Family edition? I know recent Trivial Pursuits have been quite crappy and a waste of money but DS is desperate to play but we only have the genus version and he's only six.

I was thinking about buying the Family edition and adding to it with the Harry Potter questions.

Llareggub · 13/11/2015 14:03

Yes we've got it. We've played a few times with boys of 9 and 6 and the questions are perfect for them. We've pretty much memorised the questions though after a rainy caravan holiday!

AnnPerkins · 13/11/2015 15:33

Thanks Llareggub.

Yes, they don't provide as many questions in the more recent editions do they?

I think it will be worth getting for DS if we get the extra Harry Potter questions as well.

JoffreyBaratheon · 13/11/2015 16:17

My kids are a bit older but loved Carcassonne, their older brother bought for them last xmas.

They also like The Really Nasty Horse Racing Game. And have been playing it since they were around 11 or so.

When they were 9 the game they played most was The Hobbit. But I think that version has been replaced by a different game of the same name, now.

Mercedes519 · 13/11/2015 17:06

I second Uno Extreme. Same game so simple to learn but a machine that randomly spits cards out so is hilariously funny for my 9 yo and makes the game more interesting for me.

AnonymousBird · 13/11/2015 17:33

Yahtzee is an absolute hit round here
Scrabble
Cluedo
Pass the Pigs
Backgammon

TheoriginalLEM · 13/11/2015 17:43

marking place - i loathe monopoly, it makes me want to throw myself off the nearest bridge.

Potterwolfie · 13/11/2015 17:46

We LOVE Blokus, quick and easy, strategic and great for families or friends to play together. We also love Pictionary, Scrabble, Boggle, Bananagrams.

AnonymousBird · 13/11/2015 17:52

Oo, Boggle, that's one for DD's christmas list!

RattieOfCatan · 13/11/2015 19:12

Catan, Pandemic, Carcassone and Dominion.
I don't have kids but DH and I love them Grin

LovelyFriend · 13/11/2015 19:13

Tiger have lots of old school games in at the moment.
Yatzee, Chinese checkers and Ludo.

mathanxiety · 13/11/2015 22:22

Another vote for Blokus here, and good old Scrabble. Also Kill Doctor Lucky, which is sort of like Cluedo in reverse, and with more strategy..

We also like Izzi tiles, not really a board game and not really a puzzle but a combination.

My DCs loved card games too, esp German whist.

GloriaSmellens · 13/11/2015 22:28

Oh, I came here from 'discussions of the day' to say Hotel, but I doubt you can get it anymore. Seriously the best game ever - a 1980stastic ower dressing yuppy version of Monopoly.

But if you are after current games, then I second Carcassonne - I would never he able.to tell you the rules now, but i remember a wonderful long, slightly drunken evening playing (and winning) that game!
