She's got Cranium which we all like playing but looking for another board game we can all enjoy.

Any ideas?

YES to those who said exploding kittens. We LOVE it! Get it get it get it

moonbells · 13/11/2015 22:35

Carcassonne again. Also Dragonology. DS (7 when he first played them) also likes Risk. Will ask him which his favourite is tomorrow.

Brilliant discussion of the day, getting plenty Christmas ideas, thank you! Never heard of exploding kittens before but off to look at that.

Creationary isn't a board game as such, it's basically Pictionary with Lego but it's brilliant fun, great for groups of adults as well as kids. Can't rate it highly enough. There are loads of good versions of board games e.g., Disney Monopoly or Harry Potter Cluedo, Star Wars Game of Life, my nieces and nephews (aged between 9 -16) love thosefor all the familiar places/characters. Can't wait for ds to be old enough to play them too.

Now, which board game to play this evening?...

piebald · 14/11/2015 08:23

Ingenious, cleudo, and my favourite Bananagrams
Uno is good and we love card game Newmarket which involves gambling with buttons

We always played games after tea when kids were younger and now have my 19 year old DS home after a very serious drug induced spell in ICU and all the games are coming back out, its great

We had our first game of Labyrinth last night thanks to this thread. We all liked it, I especially liked the fact that it didn't go on for too long like something like a game of Monopoly or chess. Up there with Cluedo in my estimation after one game.

oxcat1 · 14/11/2015 14:38

Another suggesting Ticket to Ride. Quick to learn and quick to play, so easy to teach visitors too.

US much easier IMO
Asian and Swiss the hardest

hels71 · 14/11/2015 17:25

Is Cranium suitable for 8 year olds and only 3 players?

Llareggub · 14/11/2015 18:23

Cranium needs 4 players or more, which is why our box remains unopened.

hels71 · 14/11/2015 19:33

Ah, thanks for that. Only 3 of us here..

TheoriginalLEM · 14/11/2015 19:45

how much reading is involved for each player in forbidden island? my DD is severely dyslexic but this looks like a brilliant game

ArthurMcAffertyhastwocats · 16/11/2015 12:49

It is great. The instructions are quite long but can be easily read aloud (and you really have to play it to make sense of it). But then very little reading - the place cards have names on but they have pictures too. And it's a collaborative game so you are all on the same side - any reading can be done by one of the other players.

Fleeced - based on Shaun the Sheep.
Trivial Pursuit for Kids
The Lego Harry Potter Hogwarts game

AnonymousBird · 16/11/2015 13:09

The lego games are brilliant - we have both shave the sheep and harry potter ones and when you start them, you think, yeah right. but both very addictive!
