Robots - which are the good ones

Really struggling for ideas for DS1 (8) and has ASD. He only wants computer games but he has talked about getting a robot. He keeps mentioning different ones but I don't know which ones are good/rubbish. I would quite like to get him the BB-8 droid cos I am a huge star wars fan but DH thinks its pretty expensive. Can anyone recommend good robots?

Speaking of robots, my ds(almost 10) has been talking about the robot MIP, does anyone here know if it's any good? Not sure about the longevity/play value after the initial wow-factor...
