Following on from the not buying a main present thread, is anyone actually giving their DCs a main present?

Just wondered because reading the other thread got me slightly worried that I have gone a bit OTT

Yes, a portable dvd player. At this rate it is her only present, have bought nothing else

noogles · 06/12/2006 19:59

YEs ds has a vtech smile computer thing with drawing attachment thingymejig. And then lots and lots of bits and bobs he has been asking for (games, cars etc). I have to say that dp and I did set a limit but I have gone waaay over it

Mine have a 2nd hand Brio set between them as their main pressie (they are 3 and nearly 2.) DD has requested a cuddly toy Boo and DS is getting a cuddly Pocoyo and that's it. We're not that hard up really but they're only little, anything more would be a waste.

nutcracker · 06/12/2006 20:24

Mine have one main pressie each and then stocking fillers.

Dd1's is Pixel chix house , Dd2's is ugly my little pony thingy and Ds's is a bike, which was thank the heavens reduced.

My main pressie is my xmas dinner lol.

poinsettydog · 06/12/2006 20:28

nutcracker, dd2 got pixel chick house for her birthday after asking for it for a month!

It's so flippin' crap

nutcracker · 06/12/2006 20:30

Yeah DD1 already has the car and I think that is crap lol. Am hoping that there will be more play value when she can join car to the house......wishful thinking really.

TinsellyRhino · 06/12/2006 20:33

dd1 has a bike because she has LONG outgrown the first bike she had and managed to teach herself to ride the little one without stabilisers so her daddy said we must get her a proper bike so she can really ride properly.

dd2 has the dinosaur thing that you use with the roll a rounds but only because my mate bought it from her friend for not much at all for her otherwise I wouldn't have bothered with a 'main' pressie for her as she is only 20 months

I think my kids are past the age the OP is thinking about, but when they were little, sometimes they did get a "main pres" - eg a bike if they were needing a new one - and sometimes they just had several random bits, although those would often add up to quite a bit of money.
