Is anybody else not getting their child a 'main' present?

there's nothing specific that I want to get dd this year so I have just bought bits and pieces.. (some books, a couple of jigsaws, a game, some craft bits etc then some little stocking fillers as well) but people keep asking me what I've got her and saying "oh so what's her main present" or "so you haven't got her a main present yet" it doesn't bother me as I know she is getting stuff she'll enjoy but does everybody else in the whole world except me but a 'main' present?

Mascara - I agree with you! I really have bought those things for their stockings. I think stockings should be a mixture of daft, fun things and sensible things - My 2 will also be getting new vests and knickers and socks in theirs.

Ds is not getting a main present because it's all 'Cars' this year. I've got so many of the different characters and other bits and bobs that there's no 'main' present.

ds2 is 9 the day before xmas eve. What he really wants is a nintendo ds. Which he won't be getting because he has ps2 and a gameboy and I refuse to be suckered into buying something for the sake of it when I am so skint this year.
He is getting loads of bits for xmas and a pirates lego thing for his birthday. He will be happy.

My two haven't asked for anything big either. DS1 got his bike in Mrach for birthday and DS2 will probably get his in Jan for his birthdya. DS2 has repeatedly asked for Roller blades, which we have got him, but DS1 hasn't really asked for anything.
TBH with DS1, he has been questioning "Santa", so i think he is deliberately not asking for anything, and says "santa knows" to see what happens IYSWIM.
