Any ideas for adult that likes ballet?

My sister really likes ballet and used to be good at it. I wanted to get her something to do with ballet but no idea what. She's not in UK so can't be tickets to a performance.
I saw a jewellery stand in shape of ballerina but didn't know if that was tacky or not. If you like ballet does that sound like something you would like?

Jewellery stand seems a bit tacky, I think.

Does she have a favourite dancer? Maybe a book about or by them?

L'occitane have done a tie-up with the Royal Ballet. I was given a lovely Giselle gift set for my birthday.

Maybe she does have a favourite dancer but I don't want to ask as it might spoil the surprise.
I'll have a look at that set thanks.

Judith Mackrell (Guardian's dance critic) has written some good and accessible books about ballet.

Deborah Bull's memoir is great.

Darcy's is really not that good :)

I did ballet up until I was 18. If you like doing ballet then you usually also like looking at pictures of it so I'd suggest a beautifully illustrated book with lots of photographs :)

If you think she might like to get back into dance (lots of adult classes around esp in cities) then a pair of ballet shoes would be a fab surprise gift, but if you do have to ask her shoe size she'll never guess why. Try Dance Direct or Move Dancewear, I like canvas split soles, shoes have really come on and aren't silly money.

No to the jewellery stand.

Copy of 'Ballet Shoes'
DVD of a ballet? No idea if such things sexist!
Degas print in nice frame?

Swan lake on dvd?

On Balletcoforum.com there is a current thread with Christmas present ideas for dancers.

We've given my brother's partner (who is a ballet dancer) a number of ballet-related gifts over the years: a bronze ballerina; a silver pendant in the shape of ballet shoes; place mats with images of ballerinas on them (not as tacky as they sound). It was all vintage stuff from eBay of antique shops. Hard to know whether she liked it though - she said thank you, but then she is polite.

This is very pretty and not terribly expensive.

My mil likes to get the Royal Ballet yearbook and Royal Ballet calender, both available from the Royal opera house shop www.roh.org.uk/products/. Gorgeous pictures in both.

The locitane sets are lovely they are £24 & are either Giselle, Nutcracker or Carmen.

I'd say no to the jewellery stand. Chances are the position will ge "wrong"

RainbowInACloud · 31/10/2015 08:23

Thank you all for the suggestions. I've ordered her a really lovely (I think) print of a drawing of some ballet feet. I'll frame it and fingers crossed she'll like it.
