...to anyone (like us in Germany) celebrating it.
ds is a bit young for the chocolate, but his lovely godmother sent him a couple of little pressies.

Happy day FIT! Is it St Nick's when you get given chocolate letters?

geekgrrl · 06/12/2006 07:33

I've got some very happy children here

makes them feel really special to be the only ones in their class to get chocs and presents today LOL

belgo · 06/12/2006 07:47

Happy Sinta Klaas! He's visiting my dd's nursery today.

admylin · 06/12/2006 08:02

Loads of happy kids here in Berlin too! All the kids on the way to school were comparing who got what!

serenitynightholynight · 06/12/2006 08:10

It's my DS1s name day today

Have to do something nice at home as he's off school today (think he's got cellulitus around his eye again, so need to go to the GP) It's a shame as they would have made a big thing of it at school.

"Sinter Klaas Kapoentje
Gooi wat in mijn schoentje
Gooi wat in mijn laarsje
Dank je Sinter Klaasje ..."

Bloody hell, can't believe I remember that song ... learned it when I was 5 ... he he he

heavenlyghosty · 06/12/2006 08:15

If anyone in Holland is around ... please spare a thought when you have some 'pepernoten' ... used to LOVE those ...

franke · 06/12/2006 08:27

Happy kids here too. I haven't quite worked out what we're meant to do, but we left out dh's shoes on the kitchen window sill and a carrot (for the reindeer?!!). Anyway it all came good in the end and we'll be doing all again in 3 weeks.

xmasmummy · 06/12/2006 09:49

do your kids go to school today???

BudaBauble · 06/12/2006 10:02

Miklaus day today here in Hungary!

DS left his shoes in the window and Miklaus left him some chocolate.

Our cleaner also left him a huge bag of chocolate yesterday which i put out with Miklaus stuff.

And Miklaus comes to school today too.

Was at a PTA meeting in the staff room and Miklaus had already left all the teachers a choc santa and a satsuma in their pigeon-holes! Was quite cute. But at least the teachers will be on same choccie high as the children!

DS has his school xmas play today too so all very exciting!

admylin · 06/12/2006 10:23

Is it a holiday in Holland or anywhere else? The German kids are all celebrating but they still have school.

belgo · 06/12/2006 11:33

There is still school for children in Belgium, but only a half day because all wednesdays are half days.

franke · 06/12/2006 11:42

Yes, dd is at Kindergarten today but they've gone off to the forest to hunt for Nikolaus.

foundintranslation · 06/12/2006 11:45

Am back!

trib , I'm not sure about choc letters - it's the leaving boots out and getting chocolate Santas thing, basically. (Except as admylin says, there seems to be a tendency here towards getting kids 'proper' presents (still more stuff to compare and compete )

Same here geekgrrl. I used to love it when i was little too. Ds had his shoes out filled with oats and carrots for St Nick's horses as soon as he came home from school yesterday

belgo · 06/12/2006 15:59

Gluhwein is delicious in cold weather isn't it!

alibauble · 06/12/2006 16:02

It was Sinterklaas in Holland yesterday and my H's birthday. He's away but we celebrated by going out to dinner. Oh and ghosty, do you want the recipe for peppernoten. I'm sure I can even by the spices over here in the USA.
