I am hosting for the first time this year. I want to have a nice relaxed chrsitmas and serve amazing food that seems to magic its way onto the table giving me time to eat, socialise and play with the children.

I am desperately trying to be organised and cook a few bits in advance.

My list so far includes ( i mostly low carb, although this is relaxed (ish) over xmas)

  • Red pepper and tomato soup
  • Cream of broccoli soup
  • Sausage meat plait
  • Bolognaise type mince dish - for lasagne or chilli
  • Chinese chicken soup
  • Marinated chicken thighs and bread dough for some flat bread kebabs
  • Braised red cabbage
  • Sausage meat stuffing
  • Pigs in blankets
  • Cooked apple puree - for crumbles or pies
  • Ricotta and chorizo savourys

I need some ideas for canapes that i can make ahead although i am considering a dash to waitrose! We have a drinks party and a family lunch(15 of us) addition to the main event on xmas day.

Does anyone have any great suggestions of things that are great from the freezer or slow cooker?

Thanks in advance

You can freeze roast and mashed potatoes ahead of time, cheese straws always go down well as canapés - just freeze the dough and thaw and bake
