We would like to buy dd a freestanding one. She will be almost 9 at Christmas and goes to basketball club twice a week. How high/ expensive do we need to go? All advice greatly received! Tia

We bought this one in the summer basketball hoop it's pretty sturdy and height adjustable. Height wise it goes up to 236cm

ineedamoreadultieradult · 25/10/2015 07:44

Don't know about height but get one with as much stability I.e weight at the bottom as you can otherwise they are forever falling over.

I don't know if its any good or not but aldi have one coming up on Thursday in their special deals - £35. We're considering getting it for dd

Hi Tia,
There are a few mini basketball hoops that you can hang over the door for about $30. If you can afford over a hundred dollar, I would recommend buying a portable basketball hoop for around $120. Not only your daughter/son will enjoy hooping but also it will be a fun spot for the family.

For a 9-year-old who attends basketball court twice a week, a standard 7.5 to 8 feet high freestanding basketball hoop should suffice. Prices can range from $150 to $500, depending on brand and features. Look for durability and adjustable height options for future use.

@JimmyWang1 the op's daughter will now be 17 but I'm sure your j go will be awful for someone! Hmm

Apologies...

Ich kenne mich mit der Höhe nicht aus, aber nimm einen mit so viel Stabilität (also Gewicht am Boden) wie möglich, sonst fallen sie ständig um.

I bought my daughter (8 years old) a mid-range freestanding basketball hoop for Christmas last year—maximum height 2.6m, adjustable. She plays basketball at the club twice a week like yours. My experience is that you don’t need to buy something too expensive, just make sure it’s sturdy, easy to adjust the height, and has wheels for moving. She has a lot of fun playing it, practicing and improving her reflexes, especially when playing Drift Boss during breaks, which helps improve her observation and reaction skills significantly.

We got this one from Decathlon and it's great for my kids aged 10 and 13 (13 yr old would like higher but conceded that it's not possible in our small garden). We had to build it but that was okay, and it's v stable filled with water though I put it on the lower setting when it is windy just in case. It's very easy to move up and down. We have had it about two months and I would say they have already had so much play from it that it's been worth the money,
