bike for 3 year old - advice

Hello
I want to buy a bike for our 3 yr old for Xmas - he has a trike already. I was going to get one with stabilisers but then I have seen quite a lot about those ones that have no pedals and they are meant to be quite good
any ideas?

you can take the pedals off a normal bike if you want .. that's so that they get a sense of balance

.. try sterling house (website) for good value bikes

if you want to teach him to ride a bike without stabilisers we found that once DS had a really good hang on riding a 2 wheel scooter and realised that sense of balance it was far easier to make the leap

definitely they get their sense of balance much more easily when they are not worrying about pedals as well - so either the pedal-less bike or as Twiglett suggests.

Stabilisers don't help them learn to balance at all in my opinion - they learn that they can lean over and still not fall off - nothing like on a normal bike.

I do think that stabilisers have their uses though - the child leans to pedal effectively - ds2 used to roar along on his.

This meant that it was possible to go on a family bike ride - ds2 could cycle a couple of miles using stabilisers. Also very iuseful in Center Parcs

He graduated from them a couple of months ago and is now doing fine ( he was just 5)
