Have sorted out dd1 (ipod), ds (rc car to build with dh) and toddler (scooter and anything pink) but I'm really struggling for ideas for dd2. She's just had a birthday and had heelies, and already has digital camera etc. Please let me know what you are buying for that age group!

My 11 yr old dd wants clothes and lots of bits and pieces, such as bath smellies, CDs, DVDs, books. She doesn't want a "big" pressie this year.

deaconblue · 05/12/2006 18:42

ooh very expensive things recommended so far - I was going to suggest her own make up bag and wash bag with stuff in, as I've bought for my niece. Probably doesn't compete with ipod tho!

janeite · 05/12/2006 19:41

Well my daughter would like that much better than an ipod, shoppingbagsundereyes!

In fact, both dds have just written their letters to Father Christmas and I'm surprised by how little they actually want. DD2 (9) wants a pillow and some marbles!!!

fortyplus · 05/12/2006 23:34

These are things my children have asked for over the years...

A carpet sweeper - ds1 age 3
A Barbie doll - ds2 age 2
A filing cabinet - ds2 age 7
Granny, Grandpa, Grandma & Grandad all coming for Christmas dinner - ds2 age 8
A teddy - ds2 age 11

Weirdos!

swedishmum · 06/12/2006 00:01

Some great ideas, thanks! Will give her the suggestions tomorrow - she's the one who said I should ask on mumsnet!
With 4 children we seem to have so much stuff and don't want to waste money on repeats. I know they have an old ps2 singstar from 2 years ago but I bet there's a new one she'd love.

Poor dd2 Janeite, does she not have a pillow currently??? (fsmile)

deaconblue · 06/12/2006 13:26

bugger it, can't work out these festive smileys

deaconblue · 06/12/2006 13:27

Fortyplus, I would have LOVED a filing cabinet as a child, why or why didn't I think of asking for one? Ended up becoming a teacher, can't think why!

paulaplumpbottom · 06/12/2006 13:40

Try High School the musical.

janeite · 06/12/2006 18:21

Has several pillows already but wants a BIGGER, SOFTER, WARMER pillow apparently!!!

dmo · 06/12/2006 19:47

my son has wanted for 3 yrs a jam butty making machine

FairytaleOfNewNorksBride · 06/12/2006 21:01

Was going to start a thread asking what to get my 11 yo niece. And now I know! I've already bought her a silver & pink shell bracelet, a secret diary and some Rimmel 'Dry in 60 seconds' nail polish.

Last year I bought her 'Angel Curls' hair curling thing and she loved it.

2shoes · 06/12/2006 21:12

sorry to hijack someones thread but do 11yr olds like make up(dd is 11 but sn) like to get her some stuff that is age appropriate

fortyplus · 06/12/2006 22:06

shoppingbagsundereyes -

fortyplus · 06/12/2006 22:08

2shoes - presume it's your dd? Most do - I used to run my sons' school pta and there'd usually be 1 or 2 girls who didn't in each class.
Have you got a Claire's Accessories shop anywhere nearby? They do loads of wonderful tat. If not, Boots are good, too.

If not your dd then you must check with the mum even if you're certain the child would like it.

deaconblue · 06/12/2006 22:14

2shoes, I think most do, although it's not very pc. Perhaps you could get a welding kit to balance out the potentially sexist message given by the sparkly make up??? Oh nuts, now I'm feeling guilty about getting my niece her own make up bag ...

FairytaleOfNewNorksBride · 06/12/2006 23:30

2shoes - I should think your DD would like it. The Rimmel 'Dry in 60 Seconds' nail polish is perfect for fidgety hands and toes (even my 5yo has the patience). And glittery make-up is fun - especially sparkly dusting powder (no expertise required)!

But if you want her to learn skin care then Clinique is brilliant for young skin. But expensive!
