Camera recommendations for an 8 year old girl please?

I am looking for a proper compact digital camera (preferably coloured) for my 8 year old. She has grown out of the chunky children's one that she's had for a few years.
Any recommendations for a reasonably priced one (£40 or under) that takes decent photos?
Thanks

Ever so slightly over budget at £49.99 but my friend's 8 year old D had this one for her birthday, she found it easy to use very quickly and was snapping away with it at her party.

DD has the same one that Whatsername posted above. It seems OK, the picture quality is good. We had a previous version of the same camera, on which the button stopped working. Was still under warranty and replaced by Argos with this one.

DS has a vivtar one, don't think it's a current model as he's had it for a while (3 or 4 years). Again it's lasted OK, though it doesn't have the features & picture quality of the nikon. Often see them around £20 - £30 on offer though.

Watching with interest as I'm after the same thing

Oh thanks. I have looked at the purple one online.

I actually have the purple one myself, and it's just stopped working - a month out of warranty. It's been a bit unreliable too.

I've seen a bright pink one in pc world for £29. I'll see if I can find a link.

I bought dd1 a vivitar one last year and it was rubbish. I am now avoiding that brand.

I'm shocked the price of cameras hasnt dropped sharply considering most people use their phones

A Nikon Coolpix - around £80 but worth it. Very child friendly and they can record video too. Only downside is batteries need recharging a fair bit.
