Yes, but that is because it is one of the easiest days we have all year

Me, DH and DD are spending the day together, at home, on our own - as normal. We will get up when DH has manged to disturb DD (he is terrible as wakes way too early like a big kid!) - around 7ish as I refuse to geeet up any earlier.

DH will go downstairs to see if Father Christmas has been, and to make a quick cup of tea. I'll grab the camera and go down, with DD hot on heels. Then straight into lounge, camera ready, for DD to see and open presents. We all open presents together, taking it in turns to see what we have. DD took ages last year playing with everything in between - so present opening can take all day!

Then breakfast with champagne. Then playing and chocolates. Dinner around 1 or 2 o'clock. Veg out with more wine, TV and more playing all afternoon. Might grab a sandwich or something light for supper. More wine.

DD to bed around 8ish. DH and I will watch Tv with more wine after that.

This year we were talking to friends on the estate and they are around - we have thought about going for a walk up to the park and then the pub - if it is open.

Ususal family rows, presents I've spent ages choosing which nobody appreciates, too much food, huge anti-climax but at least it will be in Barbados....

Barbados how nice!

buffythenappyslayer · 01/12/2006 17:03

we assumed that parents (my mum is married to dh's dad!they married after we did so its ok!!)were coming to us as we have 5 kids, which means tonnes of pressies.my mum said "we'll pop in on xmas day and say hello to you all"

i asked what did she mean as we thought they were coming for the day (like last year).

her reply "we havent been invited" knowing full well it had been mentioned before about food etc.(i hate turkey so we'd said what food to get aswell as the turkey)

so xmas day will be fab dontcha think!!my mum will be in one of her usuals,dh will be fuming at my mum and complaining about them both, kids will be hyper, and i think i will just lock myself in the kitchen with a bottle of something extremely alcoholic!!

Whooooosh · 01/12/2006 17:07

Well I have to admit that the sun will be nice but given I would never choose any of my family as friends,it won't be a bundle of laughs.

And before you ask "why go then"...trying to get dd accepted by her grandparents who barely acknowledge her existance.

paulaplumpbottom · 01/12/2006 17:13

I'm glad Whoosh that I am not the only one who feels that way about her Family? Why don't they want to acknowledge her?

Whooooosh · 01/12/2006 17:30

Well that would be a whole new thread!
But basically-family are up-their-own-arses traditionalists with more money than sense who judge everyone and everything.I,chose to have my daughter on my own and they find the whole thing embarrassing and,and,and.....

zippitippitoes · 01/12/2006 17:34

gosh buffy that is unusual..but compact

paulaplumpbottom · 01/12/2006 17:36

Whooooosh · 01/12/2006 17:42

Buffy-will be joining you in spirit!

ComeOyefaithfulVeneer · 01/12/2006 17:45

I am going "home" to have xmas with my parents and sister (plus her dh and lo's). We are all descending there for 5 daysof eating drinking and general merriment. It is fab.

UCM · 01/12/2006 17:48

We are going to get up and do presents, breakfast with some champers, church then home, everyone else will bugger off to the pub at about 2pm. I will be getting dinner ready during this time. After dinner, I will probably take DS & DNeice to park whilst everyone else falls asleep and in the evening I have invested in the Family fortunes dvd game to play with anyone still sober enough to care

paulaplumpbottom · 01/12/2006 17:50

We will have a lazy morningat our house opening presents and eating pancakes and drinking champagne, the off for a walk in the forest with my husbands family, then back to his moms for dinner. After dinner, more presents to be opened, then board games with way too much to drink after the kids go to bed.
