The little matchgirl or A Christmas Carol?

Not sure of anything modern that's Christmassy :)

Lost Christmas by David Logan?

"The Dark is Rising" series (I think it's by Susan Hill ?) set at Christmas time, very captivating.

It's the 2nd book in The Dark is Rising series (also called The Dark is Rising, just to be confusing) that's the Christmas at one, and it's very good. You don't need to have read the 1st book.

How about The Box of Delights or The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe?

How about this Smile

I was going to suggest The Dark is Rising and The Box of Delights too.

Or The Children of Green Knowe by Lucy M Boston.

Or The Long Winter by Laura Ingalls Wilder (though reading the earlier books first might be good).

Thank you for the recommendations for the dark is rising, I was looking for something christmassy for my son, who has grown out of the jolly postman etc, and that looks fantastic. Xmas Smile

Tolkien's letters from Father Christmas are lovely for an older child who has gone past the Jolly Postman, especially if you can get a copy with the facsimile letters and envelopes.

Also the Dylan Thomas A Child's Christmas in Wales, there are some very nice editions with woodcuts.

"Round the Christmas Fire" is a nice anthology. It's not a children's book, but I think it would be fine for a book-y 12y old.
