Christmas markets around County Durham/North East/North Yorks

Dh and I had a christmas tradition of a little city break at the beginning of December to visit a christmas market. Our favourites were Exeter, Lincoln and Edinburgh. Last year dd was born at the beginning of November so instead of going away we had a day trip to York instead. Lovely city but the market was smaller than I'd imagined it to be and had no food vendors- I'd been dreaming of crepes and hot toddy in a mug for weeks!

We now live in County Durham and baby 2 is due in November so we'd like somewhere close by (ideally no more than an hour away) so we can continue our traditional with the little ones.

Beamish have Christmas evenings. There's a cost for entry but a lovely atmosphere.

More than an hour from you but Wallington Hall has a fantastic Christmas market. The Quayside continental market is also awesome for food.

Newcastle has a Christmas market and Durham has a Christmas fair at the castle, I believe.

My favourite is Beamish, it's nice during the day too. We usually go at least 3 times in December.

Bowes museum is a nice day out too. Lots of lovely food stalls.

Brilliant, thanks everyone. Lots to choose from! notsayingimbatman do you know if the Newcastle one runs right until Xmas? I had a look online and it seemed to be on until the end of November only. I'm due on the 16th so can't see us getting there in time!
