Went there is July, shops already starting with the Xmas gifts etc. so I'm sure roll on colder weather the hustle'n'bustle will get bigger and bigger! X

It will be the weekend of the St Nicholas Fair, so will be utterly packed. People come in coaches from all over the north of England. It is likely to be better a week before or after.

It will be busy busy busy! It was busy this Saturday afternoon (because the sun was out). It's always busy in York though so don't worry too much.

If you want to go to Bettys - go early ie before 10am - to avoid queuing outside

But definitely go - York has that lovely Christmassy feeling even in July which the odd packed cobbled street just adds to.

We went that time of year two years ago and it was amazing - enjoy!

It will be lovely. The fair is enchanting ly expensive but the city has a great atmosphere. It's full of shoppers mixed with drunk people in Christmas jumpers,

Is it St nicks fair that weekend?

If so, it will be rammed. I would book any restaurants a week or so in advance, and try and plan activities away from the city centre until at least 3pm, but realistically it would be better going the week after...still bustling, but not the chaos of St nicks fair. York is lovely that time of year though.

Hubby and I always do a Friday in York near Christmas. Last time we went to St Nicholas Fair the Friday wasn't too bad, but apparently the Saturday was really busy.

Oh Gawd St Nick's fair will be heaving. We struggled to cross Parliament st (pedestrianised) last year, it was so busy.

Depends what you like - some people like that atmosphere, some (like me!) hate it being so busy.
