Short background: MIL has 4 distant relatives (age 17-42) that we see once a year (on christmas day for 10 minutes). They regularly hawk goods from the back of a lorry and are not nice people who would steal from their own to make a buck. We buy gifts for them every year. I think its time we stopped since we barely know them and I don't even like them.

I always get them a cd voucher or bottle of something each and I hate myself for it because there is no feeling in the gift, in fact I resent it. I adore christmas and giving lovely gifts to lovely people but this is stupid. Our lives cross paths only on christmas day when they turn up to take away whatever we have bought.

MIL and I already do not get on and this would stir things even more. Do I just buy the gifts, wrap them and duly hand them over as normal or do I stick in my heels and say F it.

(I so want to say F it this year)

this year you save the crap you don't want that you get for Christmas in your attic

and give it to them next year
