Which Yankee Christmas candle...

....smells / is the best?

It's my birthday coming up, and one of the gifts I am going to ask for is a large Yankee candle.

I've never had any Yankee candles before, but we're going for quality over quantity now in our household after years of buying junk (I've lurked around the credit crunch thread and MSE threads for a few months now)... so would like a lovely one which will last throughout the whole of Dec.

Thanks all!

PennyHasNoSurname · 31/08/2015 12:39

My favourite is Angel Wings, not sure if its officially a Christmas One. Fills our whole flat with a lovely smell.

We also have a dark cherry one but it isnt as aromatic.

Sparkling Cinnamon is my fave (not to be confused with the Cinnamon sticks one) - or Red Apple Wreath

Gingermakesmesick · 31/08/2015 13:27

Christmas cookie.

How lovely - a Christmas thread I like :)

ASDA do a christmas Yankee candle selection box, I think there are 12 different varieties. I get bored with the big candles, I like to have different scents on the go.

It depends whether you like the sweet fragrances or not. Personally I can't stand the chocolate/cookie ones so prefer cinnamon sticks or sparking cinnamon at Christmas. Divine!

goblinhat · 31/08/2015 14:30

I don't like the sweet ones either- too sickly. I like the snow or forest scents.

CarriesBucketOfBlood · 31/08/2015 14:39

None of them! They smell as bad as Facebook glittery shit looks.

IAmSashaFierce · 31/08/2015 14:55

The best thing if for you to actually go and smell them yourself.

Its a bit like asking which perfume is the best. It really depends on your taste.

I bought a selection pack last year but I actually much preferred a giant christmas candle I bought from Next which smelt sweet and spicy.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 31/08/2015 15:14

I'm awaiting a QVC order in November of the new ones (and some of the old favourites)

Sparkling Cinnamon - cinnamon and clove , much nicer than Cinnamon Stick

Christmas Cookie smells bleurgh in the jar but really nice lit

All the apple ones (Red Apple Wreath, MacIntosh, Spiced Apple Cider)

Salted caramel

I don't like pine or Christmas Eve

DrTinkle · 31/08/2015 15:17

None of 'em. Get white company instead.

PiggyPlumPie · 31/08/2015 15:21

If you like fruity scents, there is a new one this year called Berry Trifle which is rather nice. I also like the Spiced Orange one.

curriegirl · 31/08/2015 16:07

There is one that smells like a Christmas tree. It is green but for the life of me I can't remember what it is called.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 31/08/2015 16:09

I;m looking forward to "Cosy by the Fire" ginger, clove and orange.

What;s the White Company like? They do a "Winter" candle. Is it worth a try, to lure me away from YC?

Every1KnowsJeffHesUsuallyACunt · 31/08/2015 16:11

I LOVE Snow in Love and Christmas Garland. I alternate them throughout December but one or the other is always burning.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 31/08/2015 16:13

How long ago Currie?
There's "Christmas Garland" which is green and Christmas Tree smelling.

TBH they bring out the same very similar smells but a different name each year.Like Christmas Cookie, Christmas Cupcake, etc

Same as OPI. Each year a "new" collection but how many red sparkly nail varnishes can you have?

curriegirl · 31/08/2015 16:37

It could be. I had it last year. They discontinued my favourite which was autumn leaves.

LBOCS2 · 31/08/2015 16:42

Does the White Company one have a decent scent throw? I gave it a sniff while I was there over the weekend but obviously it's difficult to tell until it's lit. I've been burning Jo Malone and homemade ones, so I'm a bit spoilt at the moment!

InQuiteAPickle · 31/08/2015 16:48

My mum had the "Pine" one. Not that one, it smells like BO, imo. Nothing like Pine.

I LOVE the Winter White Company one. It smells like Christmas in a candle. I've never bought it though, just had a sniff of it in the shop.

goblinhat · 31/08/2015 16:54

I'm not keen on the White company candles. MIL gave me some last year- they all smelled like cheap perfume.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 31/08/2015 17:00

If you have a tk max near you then have a look there before you buy, they have a great range as winter approaches. Plus, you get a much nicer candle for your money.

ChristmasZombie · 31/08/2015 17:21

I like the look of that gift set from Asda!

Star2015 · 31/08/2015 19:03

Thanks for all your replies... I've decided to hit the garden centre next weekend to test (smell) a few... Gosh I live a rock n roll life ????

Sorry I don't get the Yankee Candle thing. They all have a burning plastic whiff under the perfume. I love white company's normal candles and they do scent a room though never got a Christmas one. Personally though for a Christmas scent I prefer M&S!! Also like to chuck cloves into large candle holders with unscented candles

LumpySpacedPrincess · 04/09/2015 07:00

I agree that there are better candles for the same price and it's worth looking around.
