The sales start on boxing day, so yeah, why not?
You could make a nice gift token sort of thing and they could get all excited at the prospect of going out on boxing day.
I sort of do the same, if my dds really want something that I know will be slashed to half price in argos the day after I give them money, and then suggest, that since santa didnt bring X they could buy it with thier money...and they have ants in thier pants with excitement till they get to the shops to get it...at half price!

You can make christmas special without spending a fortune( I hope, coz my dds will be getting less than less this year)
Dont get into debt over it, or end up without enought to pay the bills with.
They will be happy with whatever Santa brings im sure.

don't really worry too much, christmas is what you make of it, no need to splash out loads of money!

LadyTophamHatt · 27/11/2006 12:15

I think about doing this EVERY YEAR but always get carried away with shopping earlier. I love to shop in the sales and it makes me sick to the pit of my stomach that 24 hours after they've got us up on xmas morning 99% of the stuff we've bought goes down to half price.

Bastard shops!!

charliecat · 27/11/2006 12:17

What do they want?
I usually get my dds LOADS. But we are skint this year.
And it was thier birthday last week, same day for both of them.
So I asked them what they wanted. Playmobil...ok...
So I got them a £12 set each. and 4 little other bits each. And dp was going mad saying we cant just give them that they will be gutted.
But they werent. They sat for the first 3 hours of the day playing with the playmobil.
And friends came round with other bits and they were more than happy.

charliecat · 27/11/2006 12:18

And remember they can only play with 1 thing at a time. So the other 15 things youve brought will be lined up against the wall....

charliecat · 27/11/2006 12:20

It was also nice not having that Oh that cost 29.99 and I can see its never going to get played with sinking feeling.

I have been known to buy things again in the Jan. sale (when cheap), and then return the second item with the original December receipt. Takes a bit of organisation, but you can even buy & return on the same day if needs be. I usually do it with DVD's for DH (you'd think an adult could wait a couple of days!).

dmo · 27/11/2006 19:27

most of peoples prezzis are from jan sale
cant really buy kids cause they change in a yr

like the idea of vouchers as kids love to buy things themsevles from the shops plus they take more care of them cause they got it with their own money

if your children get a stocking and presents from other people on christmas day their christmas will last longer as they will have a promise of more toys a week later
