How does Father Christmas feature in your Christmas? [ambiguous thread title to get people looking at yet another Christmas question]

What I mean is, I know people who say that Father Christmas brings all their child's presents.

Don't they wonder why their parents didn't get anything for them?

OP posts:

Santa leaves the stockings and one present under the tree. The rest is from family and friends.

BudaBeast · 27/11/2006 09:42

As a child Santa brought us everything that was under the tree. Also got presents from relatives but were told who they were from. Never questioned why nothing from parents although my DS (5) has already told me I have to get him something! Mercenary sod!!! (he's getting a special Xmas Eve present of PJ's DVD and book from us).

PandaG · 27/11/2006 09:47

Stockings only from FC, everything else from the giver. DS(nearly7)is already confident that FC doesn't exist, I am jollying him along a little, but we tend to focus on Christmas as Jesus' birthday anyway.

dmo · 27/11/2006 09:48

my dh told me he was sooooooooo upset when he found out fc wasnt real so we say fc brings everything in the socking this includes:
book
ps2 game
art things
football
new clothes
cereal for christmas morning
lots of bits and bobs

then everything in the living room is from us (mum and dad)

serenity · 27/11/2006 09:49

We buy them, Santa picks them up and then delivers them if they've been good.

TBH we're a bit slack with the whole santa thing so mine go along with it rather than believe (I think, don't want to discuss it with them just in case)

TheArcAngelTLV · 27/11/2006 09:51

decided that we are having a santa sack which is from santa and the rest from mammy and daddy, anyway she is only 17mths so will be a while before she starts asking about santa

Trinityrhino · 27/11/2006 09:51

we have the stocking is from santa and then a couple of the pressies under the tree say from father xmas on them the rest from mum and dad and others

hana · 27/11/2006 09:53

Santa Claus leaves a stocking and a few presents, usually unwrapped beside the sock near the Christmas tree. Any other presents are from whoever they are from!
don't get this whole santa brings ALL the presents business

am not english so it's santa not fc byw!

CantWaitForTheSnow · 27/11/2006 09:56

FC brings stockings, people bring everything else because

  1. If FC brings everything why do you need to thank people
  2. If FC's job is to deliver presents brought by other people, how come they don't all arrive in time for Christmas / some people not use FC to deliver presents / some arrive by post?

This just leaves me the problem of persuading in-laws not to write 'from FC' on everything. Any ideas anyone?

Bugsy2 · 27/11/2006 10:08

FC only brings a few gifts for my children and leaves them in the living room by the chimney. Absolutely no way FC is taking all the credit for the gifts I've worked hard to pay for!!!

Jelley · 27/11/2006 10:24

FC brings stocking presents. Everything else is from real people.

We give and receive presents from people we love. And we say thankyou to them.

nzshar · 27/11/2006 10:34

Yep FC fills the stockings and one present here too. The rest are from Mummy and Daddy, family and friends.

Tommy · 27/11/2006 10:41

FC brings stockings with little presents and sweets etc in them. Everything else is from who whoever gets them a present.

Also bit puzzled about a Father Christmas who brings everything

hulababy · 27/11/2006 10:51

In our house we have the same systme as when Dh and I were little.

All presents for DD are wrapped up and "sent" to Father Christmas by the buyer. FC them checks everything and delivers them magically to our house on Christmas Eve. These presents have the names of the givers on them. DD may or may not know what are in these gifts to an extent.

FC also delivers a special gift from himself to DD - normally something she has asked for especially. This year she has asked for a digital camera and is hoping FC might be able to find one for her. This is wrapped by FC and delivered on the night also.

Often she can still see some of the magical elf dust on her presents from the elf's packing areas

Gingerbear · 27/11/2006 10:55

We are similar to Hula, friends and relatives buy, then they are sent to Santa for the elves to wrap and deliver on Christmas Eve.

Not done elf dust or reindeer prints yet.
Have done putting out a carrot and a mince pie though.

hulababy · 27/11/2006 10:56

GB - we got the elf dust with a letter from santa last year. So reused it on Christmas Eve - it is very fine glitter and gets everywhere. DH hates it!!!

colditz · 27/11/2006 10:56

Santa brings the biggest box, Mummy and Daddy fill the stocking.

MerlinsBeard · 27/11/2006 11:03

We buy the presents, FC delivers them and leaves one each from him

hana · 27/11/2006 12:03

so for those families where Santa delivers all the goods - what if a family comes to visit with presents in hand ......do you whisk them out of sight before your children see them? and what happens if they do see them?

Gingerbear · 27/11/2006 12:13

Easy - they were too late sendining them off to the North Pole, so missed Santa's last post (Santa is a bit like the Royal Mail/ Parcelforce)

hana · 27/11/2006 12:15

aha

MerlinsBeard · 27/11/2006 14:11

Easy, we buy the gifts and give them santa to deliver, they haven't asked yet how it all happens, they are only 3.5 and 19 months!!

sassy · 27/11/2006 14:15

In reply to the OP, I hate the "Santa brings the lot" idea.

In our house, he brings stocking-fillers and some of the bigger presents, then the rest are from us/family etc.

Presents w/out labels are from HIM.

Will now read the thread...

wangle99 · 27/11/2006 14:15

In our house FC only delivers the stocking presents.

MIL used to say she bought all the presents and gave them to FC but to be honest DD wouldn't buy that lol.
