Presents for almost 2 year old girl

I've had a look through and can't see any posts similar to this but if there are please feel free to redirect me!

My DD will be 2 in February and I have no idea what to get her for Christmas! I have a ds who is almost 7 and I feel like I did birthday and Christmas presents wrong with him and he seemed to have too much too soon if that makes sense? E.g he was getting things at age 3 that he should have gotten when he was 5 and I feel like he has grown out of toys really quickly. I have no experience with girls (no Nieces etc) so can anyone tell me what 2 year olds like to play with? I can't even remember what my ds got around the same age! My dd loves babies and spends ages pushing her baby around in the little pushchair so I was thinking of some baby stuff but then I read on another post that someones 5 year old dd loves her baby dolls so am I being premature?! I'm probably massively overthinking this but with Christmas and birthday so close I need to get it right as we don't have money to be spending on toys throughout the year. I was thinking maybe the Vtech Toot Toot stuff but is that "plastic tat"? Maybe a garage? I really have no idea!

My dd will be two just after Christmas. So far I have bought her a dolls house, Duplo, play dough, books and an Aqua doodle.
I'd like to get her a balance bike, if I can work out which one! I am looking for play food to go with the kitchen and pots and pans she got last year, which she plays with every day. Last year she also got a rocking horse, Brio train set, mega blocks, puzzles, talking dog, wooden blocks (all the above hardly used), dolls, cozy coupe car, ride on toys, bath toys, instruments (shakers, bells Etc), pull along duck, Duplo and books (all played with regularly).

I am hoping she'll grow into some of the toys she barely plays with but I think it's partly the she just has too many toys. Like you I try to buy toys she can have some use out of now but that will last her a while. Have to say the toys from last year were not all bought by me, this year I will try to get less as she is lucky to have generous grandparents and she simply does not need so many toys. Will be watching this thread for ideas though, in case people ask for ideas!

My dd is nearly two and loves her play kitchen, plays with it every day. I bought it and the accessories from ikea and they have been very good. I have bought her the shop from asda (half price £17.50!) and a till for her bday next month.
She also loves duplo, especially any parts with wheels, a melissa and Doug latch board and playdough.

Don't be put off by her being a girl, the great thing about that age is they're not picking up cues from adverts yet so will play happily with 'boys' toys. A toy garage or dollshouse (the plastic Happyland ones not a posh wooden one) would go down well. I think we got DD the Happyland rocket at that age.

My daughter was 2 for last Christmas and I got her a pram and baby stuff so if you think that's what she would like I'd get her it. I think that's a toy that lasts through the years so not too old for her. You can get baby bath sets with pretend potty, nappies etc as well. Which I found helped when I potty trained her, her wee doll sat in the potty too.
Other things she got were Disney princess little people castle and figures which at almost 3 she still loves, little basket of pretend food, bristle blocks, peppa pig colourino game, peppa pig tea set.

Looking at what my two still play/use with:

Duplo

Play kitchen stuff

ELC happyland stuff/ Fisherprice play people

Basic jigsaws

Books (esp boardbooks of well known stories such as Tiger Who Came to Tea, Gruffulo etc)

Bath toys

And for my ds2, it would also have been anything Peppa Pig.

P.S. Also agree that at that age, what boys like, girls like so don't get hung up on the differences.

Personally I'd say you won't get much use really out of the toot toot stuff now. My 3.3 yo hasn't played with it for a yr, though it was well used the yr before thst. If she likes dolls then buy them. If she's still playing with them in a few yrs time you can always upgrade for a larger pram or more expensive doll. With my nieces though, they were into crafts by then and wanting stuff for school clubs.

My niece turns 3 in Feb and play kitchen, pram and doll, duplo and brio trains have been very popular. She is also getting keen on fancy dress but only in the last few months. She also enjoys cars. Her dollhouse hasn't been played with all that much though but the bigger happyland sets were well played with.

My lo is 2 in feb as well. So far we've got her a pram, doll (just the emmi tesco one), couple of outfits/bottles, rocking crib (emmi one again), brio train track (obsessed with her brothers and you cant have too much track), dressing up box I'm putting together, rosebud wooden dolls house. She has the disney princess little people palace with the people and she just doesn't play with it at all, same with another plastic set off her gran of a castle. Shes a lot more interested in her cousins doll house and I'm able to keep the smaller bits until shes older and add to the set so I'm not worried about her getting it too early. She still loves her cosy coupe and skuttlebug. Dads got her an easel as well so far, her big brother has the Iikea one which is fab that she loves. I'm undecided about a barbie convertable and disney doll to go in it that I got last week - she loves her brothers bigger trucks and cars but more specifically the people in and out of it so know she'd love it.

Some things shes still loving from last year are her hide and squeak eggs, handbag and fisher price piggy bank, aquadoodle.

Shes into such a range of things, a lot to do with having a sibling only 18 months older I think, but all kids are different. We have toot toot and shes never bothered with it.

What age would you say was the maximum age limit for Mega Bloks?

my dd's favourites at around 2 were:

little people Disney Princess castle
happy land - especially the house, rocket, double decker bus and caravan.
peppa pig toys - camper van and school set.
tea set - the fisher Price one is great.
scuttlebug
doctors set - doc mcstuffins as it's sparkly!
thats not my... books
busy books.
doll with buggy and highchair.

mini kitchen from elc (fits under bed which is great)
cuddly toys of favourite characters.

all children play differently its about finding what interests them - both mine love small world play and role play so we buy things like that and avoid buying fad toys or things we think they should have.

my eldest dd (7 at xmas) still regularly plays with most of these toys. how she plays with them has changed so we've just added to them over the years. or added things to compliment them eg new figures which she uses in the happyland.

herdofrhino I wouldn't buy a 2 year old the big mega blocks I think duplo would be better and would get much more use.

mine never really used it as we only had a small box so they couldn't build very much however a friend has a massive tub of it and the baseboards which her nearly 7 year old still uses.

Agree with duplo over megablocks for longevity really. My son loves the accessories you get in duplo. For the Christmas before he turned two he got the toot toot trainset which he did really enjoy, but it's huge so wasn't left out and got asked for less often. I would imagine he would definitely play with it if I got it out now (mostly as he is very keen on trains) but he wouldn't really play with the garage or airport. He has older versions that allow more small world play (as they call it at nursery). He's 3.3yo.

My 2 year old DD loves her Playmobil 123 farm (which was her brother's and still looks good as new).
She also likes her kitchen and play food and a doctor's kit (one of her favourite books is Doctor Maisy).

Ooh kitchens! We have the elc diner (goes down to £75 nearer christmas and teamed with a birthday code and£10 off ordering first time via mothercare app you can get it really cheap ;) ) and melissa and doug food and accessories which come down all the time too, its a winner all round. All the kids of various ages go straight to it at ours and my dd and ds have loved it since santa brought it last year. Its been played with every single day without fail and both dcs 'cook' and brew up, thred their bbq and cut their fruit. Its for sure been the most educational and fun toy from last year. X

My DD turned 2 a fortnight before Christmas last year. The biggest hits were a Peppa Pig Weebles Playhouse set and bloody Play Doh. Now, at 2.8 her favourite toys are her teaset (she has a VTech one, which sings and changes colour and stuff) and her Chad Valley toy CD player.

So sorry I posted and disappeared, with the app going ice been a bit rubbish getting on here! Thanks so much for all of the ideas, have now got a list going of potential presents, will definitely be getting some baby stuff as she loves her doll and now a few people have said she isn't too young I feel better! She loves cars as well but we have so many from my DS so I might look at getting her a garage, may give the toot toot stuff a miss though as this is the second place I've seen someone say she may not get long out of it. Thanks again.
