What to wear to the office party....help

Help - what do you wear to the office party when you are 34, 2 children, figure slightly gone west but not bad (large size 12) and still above average face. The women in my office who wear long boots and short skirts at over 40 just look like mutton. I don't want to look like I'm on the pull as I'm happily married but I don't want to look 50 either. Any tips? Feel like I need Trinny and bl**dy Susannah!

have you got flat knee length boots?
wear them with knee length skirt and thick opaque tights/patterned ones
with a dressy black top

I just bought a silk chinese top off ebay to wear to mine with a black skirt and kitten heel shoes

or a nice wide leg pair of grey trousers with heels and a black top, maybe with a chunky belt

second suggestion - wideleg trous and elegant top - very good.
I'm sure people will pick this up, but if not try posting on Style to get the attention of the resident gurus...

I am liking the sound of the chinese top...and the wide leg trousers are very me.... bad luck on the fancy dress Mrs Badger, I would only do that amongst friends!
