Do you remember my rant last month about how I hate Christmas? Well ...

... I am actually starting to look forward to it. And that is down to mumsnet.

So many people have been so generous, in so many ways - and not just to me. I keep going back to Soapbox's Christmas present thread, and to penniless's and JARM's threads, and it just makes me glad to be a part of this place. I am now seeing what to me is the true spirit of Christmas - giving to those who have not. Just thinking of all those people out there who, like me, were dreading the expense of Christmas, the pressure, the pointless hardship in January that inevitably follows, and the burden is being eased, by people who don't know us from Adam - well, I'm just overwhelmed really.

Just wanted to share

Thank you all.

I am very happy you are happy, Miaou!

Marina · 22/11/2006 10:20

To hear that you no longer hate and dread Christmas is just wonderful Miaou
I've been really, seriously thinking of leaving Mn after six years here because of the surge in quarrelsome, callous posts and threads
But Soapy's inspired moment and its fabulous consequences have drawn me back in and reminded me it's not all carping and intolerance

Bozza · 22/11/2006 10:32

Oh Marina don't leave. Well done miaou for helping to keep her here.

queenrollo · 22/11/2006 10:39

i've always looked forward to Christmas and then found it one huge anti-climax when it does arrive......last year was our first christmas as parents, ds was only 5 months old and just staring at his beautiful face all day was the best present i've had in years.
my sister did point out yesterday that she didn't realise just how much our parents did to make christmas really magical for us.....my parents were so poor for all of my childhood yet i remember christmas being such a wonderful time.

Flamesparrow · 22/11/2006 10:41

I feel the same - I was dreading Christmas, and feeling decidely unfestive, and although it is still a bit of a worry (mainly feeling mean for not being able to buy for others...), it is seeming a lot brighter thanks to MN.

icebat · 22/11/2006 11:14

I think what we're proving to ourselves here is that the main spirit of christmas is inside us not in our wallets. All together now..aaaahhhhh!!

Miaou · 22/11/2006 18:23

Thank you all for your kind words. Marina, if I've had any small part in making you change your mind about leaving MN, then all the worry has been owrth it
