If it makes you all feel better, then who are we to criticise, not that I am. You do what you want, my dh wants to put them up the first week in December but we have some decorating to do first!

flamesparrow · 21/11/2006 14:16

Ours go up 12 days before Yule... not sure I'm looking forward to it this year with the cruising c hild!!

NotAnOtter · 21/11/2006 14:33

how awful - your life must be dull

Tortington · 21/11/2006 14:33

but do you like the long ballons and how they make that ahhhhh sound when you rub up against them?

Kelly1978 · 21/11/2006 14:42

Crazy, won't you be sick of them by christmas?
Mine are goin up on Christmas Eve I think, so that is less time I have to spend defending the tree from the dts.

buktus · 21/11/2006 14:56

yes my life is sooooo dull

nikkie · 21/11/2006 19:44

I was bored today waiting for BT and was so tempted to get my tree out but managed to restrain myself and we will prob try to wait until after dd1s b'day

poppyh · 21/11/2006 20:10

We dont put ours up til mid dec, but that is because we get a real tree. If I put it up any earlier, there would be nothingleft by xmas!
Plus im a bit of a traditionalist, wait til christmas to deck the halls.

pipo · 21/11/2006 20:38

I don't put ours up until mid dececember but I hate taking them down-the house seems so drab without them. When I was single I kept my decs up til mid february one year but now DH is a stickler for taking them down on 12th night.

HazelnutsRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 21/11/2006 20:47

I have had mine up now for 2 weeks, 2 houses up the road from me had theirs up a few days before that, now their are 7 houses that had dec up

siang · 21/11/2006 22:24

i put mine up on 31st nov and switch them on 1st dec.

swedishmum · 21/11/2006 22:31

I'm really shocked by this- are you all for real? I know a family round here who put them up right after Halloween but I thought they were a one off! Up by our party on 17th Dec then down before the new year by me. They seem so tired and tawdry after Christmas.

Nemoinapeartree · 21/11/2006 22:33

blimey cant belive soo many people have them up...we usually put them up when advent starts which is a week on sunday.

Twohootsunderthemistletoe · 21/11/2006 22:38

If people want a bit of extra decoration in their lives so what? Life can be so dull at this time of year so the lights etc can cheer people up!

BTW we'll be putting ours up on 2nd Dec (we go away for Xmas around 21st Dec so need to get plenty of wear out of them!). Am thinking it will be a bad idea though as DD is 18 mo and WILL be clamouring all over the tree/breaking the glass decorations!!! Lol.

My MIL doesn't put her tree up til Xmas Eve - I personally think that is v humbug tbh. Even when DH and bro were little she did it then too and DH said he always felt he 'missed out'!

Not sure when to put our outside lights up though (only talking those icicle type things not blackpool illuminations type)? Will wait for others around first I think .

Nemoinapeartree · 21/11/2006 22:40

twohoots I am trying to convince Dh we should have something outside..although it isnt helped by DS[3.1] begging for santa in a train

ISawTortoiseKissingSantaClaus · 21/11/2006 22:43

Ive got some of mine up.It looks bright and cheery!
I can't imagine rushing around on christmas eve to put them up for a few days them packing them all away again. Least mine get a good airing each year.
The DC love it too.

notasheep · 21/11/2006 22:58

ITs November. THink you all need to get out a bit more. LOL

Twohootsunderthemistletoe · 21/11/2006 23:08

Note - I'll be waiting until December as I said earlier (just!)

Yep couldn't be doing with the whole 'light show' going on outside but do like to see other people's homes decorated like that - always makes me . Understated is best in my book lol!

There are a lot of bah bumbugs (sp!) around here lol!!!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS LOL!

LunarSea · 22/11/2006 09:51

Might get the outdoor lights - tasteful white understated ones - out and test them at the weekend. Might even put them up, weather permitting, but not switched on, as weekends are the only chance we get to do it. Won't be turning them on before December though. Indoors we'll be having a real tree so that won't be going up until mid December.

VanillaMilkshake · 22/11/2006 10:37

As much as I love Christmas, with a baby due on 9th Dec we have decided to put decs up after bump's arrival - however if s/he is late that could be Christmas Eve . Although they look lovely as soon as Boxing Day is over I get realy fed up with them and long to take them down. It's amazing how much space you think you have aftertaking them down.

We're not ones for the 12 days etc. So we normally take them down again on New years Day.

DD will be helping put them up for the first time this year which I am looking forward to, so I am hopefull bump will get here on time.

Rosieglow · 22/11/2006 11:17

Good luck with the bump, vanillamilkshake. We have birthdays in December so now we always wait until after birthdays before putting Xmas stuff up. And never, never do joint birthday/xmas presents!!

kacoro · 22/11/2006 11:29

always put mine up o 12 of dec, its my birthday so saves having to go out and spend money i cant afford but the kids still think its special, they come down 5th jan as thats dh birthday so works out quite well but i have to admit i love my decs and would have them up earlier if that wasnt the tradition
