what happens in the shed in the "Snowman"?

Just bought and watched "The Snowman" for the first time, in preparation for Christmas. My mime-reading skills are clearly not up to scratch because I have no idea what happens at one point in the film:

just before the boy goes flying with the snowman, they both go into the shed, open a box full of yellow light, the snowman gets in, puts on some kind of hat (an early bilibo?) and then gets out. They both look very disappointed. They then fly off.

What on earth happened? Assuming this is not a Cold Comfort Farm moment, grateful for enlightment so that I can enlighted ds in due course.

the snowman discovers the meaning of life in that section, i don't think your son will notice

I thought that the meaning of life was 42?

It was the freezer, wasn't it? He got in for a quick chill/thrill?

ISawTortoiseKissingSantaClaus · 17/11/2006 23:04

Isn't it a large freezer? Im trying to remember the film now!Haven't watched it since last christmas!

nearlythree · 17/11/2006 23:20

Doesn't he need to re-freeze himself as he got too hot indoors? Hence the freezer?

firemaiden · 17/11/2006 23:26

Ah! Freezer makes sense - still doesn't explain why they both look unhappy/disappointed though.

they look disappointed because they realise that he will only be around when it's icy

imaginaryfriend · 17/11/2006 23:34

I watched this about a million times last Christmas with dd. It's a freezer. I think they look 'disappointed' because the Snowman gets a 'calling' that it's time for him to head off to the Snowman party and see the Northern lights. It's kind of a Snowman-gotta-go moment.

I think.

I think imaginary friend has it right.
The Snowman is just about to leave his friend, the boy. Then he decides the boy can come as well.

yes I was going to post but it seems that you pretty muc have it now

motorbike melts legs, goes in freezer to refreeze, realises that he needs the cold (foresees the terrible end) / recalls christmas santa bash and before you know it we are walking in the air with aled.

For a children's thing it is pretty deep!
