I know I have posted about this before, but it might be especially useful near to Christmas. If you take your 2 or 3 year old's health book to your local library, in many areas you will be given a free

smart bag with story books, pencils and colouring book inside (2 year olds)

or

'treasure chest' box with story books, pencils, pencils sharpener and colouring book (3 year olds)

as part of the Bookstart scheme.

The sets are really fab and would make a great Christmas present if you need something to give to your toddler / preschooler.

Check before trekking to the library, if you are not sure if this scheme runs in your area. When lots of us asked before, it seemed to cover most of the country but not all.

ds1 is due for his treasure chest! With the 2yr one, you had to get a form from the HV though, and show that at the library; his health record book wasnt enough.

We got a baby one from the HV and the year 2 one so try your HV too as Bookstart use them to distribute. My dd (3) just got her treasure chest via her nursery school.
