To find a Christmas pressie for dd.

But this ain't any ordinary little girl! She's 6 and wants a ball pool or a bouncy castle. We can't afford those and don't have the room either, so we said we'd take her to some over Christmas. Fine she said, only she can't think of anything else she wants for Christmas. She's just not the kind of kid that wants things.

She's not girly, hates Barbie and has no interest in little ponies or doing hair or anything like that! We have failed miserably in the past to get her a decent present that she has liked! Huge failures include a dolls house that ds plays with more, and a crystal making set that she never uses.

So, ideas please!

keyboard?

Rhubarb · 13/11/2006 21:35

Not musically gifted I'm afraid!

We'll get her a walkman, but not as a main present. Just discussed with dh and we feel that at 6 she's a tad young for her own CD player just yet.

scooter, bike...playmobil stuff? the zoo?
gameboy? nintendo ds?

Rhubarb · 13/11/2006 21:42

She has a scooter and bike, sorry but all computer games are banned here until they start work and earn their own money!

She doesn't seem interested in Lego either, much to my disappointment!

Told you this would be a challenge! The walkman idea was good though!

last year paddling pool with a £10 quid bag of balls filling it!!!!!

ComeOVeneer · 13/11/2006 21:44

Animal adoption?

charliecat · 13/11/2006 21:44

roller blades? heelys?

hamstermunker · 13/11/2006 21:44

DS1 has his own CD player - he's 2.7. It's a proper one - not a kid one. He tunes it to LBC and falls asleep listening to it.

In fact, maybe he's not 2.7. Maybe he's 72?

ComeOVeneer · 13/11/2006 21:44

Star named after her.

charliecat · 13/11/2006 21:45

year long pass to somewhere local and good?

Rhubarb · 13/11/2006 21:45

charliecat - we could do that I suppose, it's just the thought of blowing up the pool, emptying the bag of balls and then clearing it all away again afterwards. Plus winter is not the season for ballpools!

Animal adoption is an idea I suppose, but would she appreciate it at 6?

Do you want a thing that you can wrap?

Rhubarb · 13/11/2006 21:47

Oh and she can't ride the bike, her balance is shite, I can't risk a trip to A&E by getting her roller blades!

You have given me the idea of those Moon Shoes though? She has a trampoline (birthday present from grandma, how come she always gets it right? Oh yeah, she has money!) and she loves that.

Rhubarb · 13/11/2006 21:48

Gillian - yeah, I suppose so. I dunno really.

hulababy · 13/11/2006 21:48

DD had a CD player for her bedroom for her first birthday present!

Gillian76 · 13/11/2006 21:49

Magnetix?

Furball · 13/11/2006 21:49

a watch?
digital camera - you can get quite cheap ones

ComeOVeneer · 13/11/2006 21:50

What does she like doing?

Gillian76 · 13/11/2006 21:50

Oh yes a camera?

Rhubarb · 13/11/2006 21:50

Hmm, I just think that tapes are sturdier than CDs. She does have a little brother who is particularly destructive, if she had a walkman I think she'd be able to protect it better and it's not confined to her room then either.

We'll definitely get her this, but on it's own it's a bit mean.

Gillian76 · 13/11/2006 21:51

But tapes with an inquisitive little brother? We have been there. Yards and yards of stuff to unravel. Once you discover that trick you can have hours of fun

Rhubarb · 13/11/2006 21:52

Digital camera????? I'm getting dh one for his main pressie! They're too expensive for us I'm afraid to justify getting one for a child!

I had thought about an ordinary camera. We got her a throwaway one to use last year as part of her present, we paid around £5 to develop a film mainly of people's legs, half heads, closed eyes, etc!

Fisher price digital camera for about £45.
