To find a Christmas pressie for dd.

But this ain't any ordinary little girl! She's 6 and wants a ball pool or a bouncy castle. We can't afford those and don't have the room either, so we said we'd take her to some over Christmas. Fine she said, only she can't think of anything else she wants for Christmas. She's just not the kind of kid that wants things.

She's not girly, hates Barbie and has no interest in little ponies or doing hair or anything like that! We have failed miserably in the past to get her a decent present that she has liked! Huge failures include a dolls house that ds plays with more, and a crystal making set that she never uses.

So, ideas please!

riding lesson?

Rhubarb · 13/11/2006 21:55

She can't tell the time yet either.

She likes doing craft things, she loves Art Attack! But she has had lots of craft things as presents and we thought perhaps we could get her something different?

She likes books too, I always get her a book as a present. She LOVES the BFG. She's a quiet child, not particularly sporty, but her concentration easily wanes too. Her imagination is brilliant, she would get top marks for day-dreaming!

Gillian, we can't do £45

We are thinking around £30 on each child?

SherlockLGJ · 13/11/2006 21:57

But WWW one lesson leads to two and atm,I think cash is a bit tight at Chez Rhubarb.

expatinscotland · 13/11/2006 21:59

Rhu
Do you have a Costco membership or know someone who does?

B/c they have a LOT of terrific crafty stuff and kits for around a tenner.

Rhubarb · 13/11/2006 22:00

What is Costco?

WWW, she did get a riding lesson for her birthday in France and she loved it! I guess we could look into the cost of doing that here?

Animal adoption works if you can look at the animals eg donkey sanctuary, zoo, so really needs to go hand in hand with an annual pass to said place.

If she's imaginative how about going to a fabric shop and getting lots of gauzey fabrics (you'd need hem them.) Look at the silk playcloths under the Play/Dressing Up heading here to see what I mean. I would have loved something like this when I was little!

Furball · 13/11/2006 22:06

digital cameras don't have to be expensive

Rhubarb · 13/11/2006 22:07

Now you see, that looks good! She'd love to make her own doll, but not the wooden peg kind, the kind she could then have clothes for! Please bear in mind that her mother has no time for needle and thread, I go for glue anytime!

OP posts:
Furball · 13/11/2006 22:10

what about 'art attack' or similar comic subscription?

Furball · 13/11/2006 22:12

what about a cookery book, apron, mixing bowl cookie cutters etc?

pointydog · 13/11/2006 22:15

walkie talkies. saw some good little ones in tesco

LadyVickyOfBeckinghamPalace · 13/11/2006 22:18

How about a couple of dressing up outfits? But a large box, and even go to a charity shop and fill it with weird and wonderful clothes.. my dd is 5 and loves this! I have also bought her a CD player (A pink one!) for her b'day. She's not particularily girly either, in fact, her main thing on her xmas list was a punch bag and a pair of boxing gloves, as she went to the gym with my sister and kickboxed and punched and loved it!?? How about something for her room? Does she like pretend make-up or anything? Or a robosauraus? (This might not be the name of them It's a dinosaur that is robotic..poss remote controlled?)

LadyVickyOfBeckinghamPalace · 13/11/2006 22:19

particularly

loopybear · 13/11/2006 22:28

how about...
a dance mat
a wobble board
stilts, especially the bigfoot kind
pogo stick
swingball (if you have a garden)
an easel
old-fashioned roller SKATES rather than roller blades, so you can stand up in them
a kit to grow butterflies or ladybirds
stick insects
a goldfish
a tent and camping kit
a princess bed canopy

anorak · 14/11/2006 08:26

Take her to toys R us and let her choose?

MrsMills · 14/11/2006 08:41

A microscope. Ds1 is the same age and can spend hours sticking things under it.

Rhubarb · 14/11/2006 10:41

I like the thought of growing ladybirds or butterflies! I think she'd like that! Where can you get one from?

OP posts:
JackieNo · 14/11/2006 10:46

Some butterfly kits here . DD's class did this at school - went down very well.
