Greensleeves.....Snowman Night

UCM · 11/11/2006 08:30

I have bought the pyjamas, the Snowman/Father Christmas dvd and I managed to get a little box of chocolates from Waitrose which are 'the snowman raymond briggs ones'. I just need to make sure we have the crafty gear & the stuff to make the biscuits....

Greensleeves, thanks for that, I am more excited by the 'Snowman Night' than by actual Christmas day LOLOLOLOL. DH thinks I am bonkers.

For those of you who don't have this wonderful tradition, on asking for ideas, Greeny came up with snowman night on Christmas eve, where you make snowman biccies, snowman decorations and watch the snowman, in christmas Jamas of course and with hot chocolate. I can't wait.

oooh what a fab idea

might do this the weekend before advent starts.

Greensleeves · 11/11/2006 15:58

Oh, how lovely!!! It is fun, I love it

We have white "snow" marshmallows in our hot chocolate while we watch the Snowman, too, and this year I am planning to make "snowballs" out of marshmallows and ice cream...... and sing snowman-related songs

In fact if by some miracle there is a smattering of snow in Devon this year, I might try and take them up one of the tors on Dartmoor to make a snowman during the day, before they put their snowman PJs on

Greensleeves · 11/11/2006 15:58

...I meant meringues and ice cream for the snowballs

WelshBoris · 11/11/2006 16:03

Greeny have I told you I love you recently?

Can you believe in one weeks time we shall be meeting? I am very excited

Flamesparrow · 11/11/2006 16:03

Oh snowman night sounds great!!! We have Yule a few days before, then we can have SMN, then Xmas...

UCM · 11/11/2006 16:04

You know, this could be big, like Halloween if everyone starts doing it. I will have to make 'Happy Snowman Night' cards

I do love the idea of other families doing it too, my boys so enjoy it

I only had the idea last year, but it worked so well we are keeping it as a tradition, and we keep thinking of little things to add to it

Greensleeves · 11/11/2006 16:12

....in fact ds1's idea this year is that as well as one big snowman biscuit each to decorate (white icing and sweets/white chocolate and dessicated coconut) we sould also make and decorate some smaller ones with holes at the top so we can loop a ribbon through and hang them on the Christmas tree

firemaiden · 11/11/2006 16:27

where do you get the pjs from?

FrannyandZooey · 11/11/2006 16:28

Greensleeves you are a gigantic slop monster

(Matalan have fab Christmas type Jarmies, cream with teddies wearing red scarves on)

UCM · 11/11/2006 16:34

Yes yes, matalan, not snowman ones but I got polar bears!!

FillyjonkTheFireEater · 11/11/2006 16:34

is everyone else doing it xmas eve?

just to be nosy.

do we need snowman night names?

And can I use mine the last weekend before advent please?

UCM · 11/11/2006 16:35

Well, polar bears ARE white, so I had to compromise. Couldn't get snowman ones anywhere.

Oh that's wonderful - going to nick this idea I feel....but might be at the expense of crib service at church
Still, as a sort of polydeic household (is that the word I mean??) I reckon we can find a way round it

Greensleeves · 11/11/2006 16:47

I got snowman PJs off ebay, they are navy skinny ones with little snowmen all over them...I am really excited about Snowman Night, it is lovely

UCM · 11/11/2006 16:59

FrannyandZooey · 11/11/2006 17:16

I have got the LP of the snowman music, and I used to have a snowman nightie case

firemaiden · 11/11/2006 17:50

Letterbox have a Snowman activity book for £2.99 in their stocking filler section (although it is apparently A4 size so wouldn't fit in most stockings!). Says it has "stories, stickers, games and puzzles".

hamstermunker · 11/11/2006 17:53

I used to have a snowman on my Christmas stocking. I say used to. I still have the stocking

Greeny, this is a lovely idea. When my two are a bit older - ie next year - we will do this

mrsnoah · 12/11/2006 09:43

Mr Snowman...

Hi, did you see my post on the original thread about my Mum, Greensleeves ?
She is obsessed by Snowmen. (sounds a bit wierd when you say it like that!)

She makes this giant Mr Snowman out of carboard and cotton wool like a covered wastepaper basket! With a big black top hat on and real woolly scarf round his neck. Stands about 2' high.

After Christmas Dinner we would be taken one by one up to Mr snowman to get our very last present by find the bit of red wool with our name on. When you pulled the string your present came out of the top oh his hat
We kids thought it was just the BEST thing ever!
Its been going at least 30yrs now.

We still have him at Mum's now and she puts little perfume s in for us adults and tiny toys for the grandchildren!

ludaloo · 12/11/2006 09:49

ooooooohhhhh I'm a big christmas softy!!!!1

I had planned to watch polar express and read A night before christmas on xmas eve....

I love this idea though.....
Maybe I could do a xmas eve eve snowman day!???
