ME and dp have been talking about father christmas and believing inhim when we were young. BUt mostly (and we have agreed on this) we remember knowing he was not real but continuing in pretending to believe so as not to upset our parents? Anyone else do this?

Also I remember me and my sister trying to 'catch' our parents out and then POSL as they tried to cover it up. This was an integral part of christmas for us.

Yes, totally! My dad used to leave a letter from 'Father Christmas' saying thanks for the brandy and the carrot for my reindeer. We just humoured him

TheHighwayCod · 09/11/2006 10:10

i did to get gifts

Cappuccino · 09/11/2006 10:11

cod me too

mother was desperate, single and skint

she started some tale about how Santa made you swop your old toys for new ones when you got a bit older

I knew she was just off to sell them

ilovecaboose · 09/11/2006 10:15

so do you think your kids are doing the same to you or do they truly believe?

I did for a while not to upset my younger sister and probably also to keep getting the presents

AnguaVonUberwald · 09/11/2006 10:29

I was the eldest of five children and I know my sister, who was the youngest, pretented for about two years that she belived in father christmas as the whole rest of the family still desperatly wanted her to belive.

JodieG1 · 09/11/2006 10:57

I don't remember doing that at all. I really believed as htey made it so real and magical for me. We're doing the same for our kids too.

PinkTulips · 09/11/2006 11:00

nope, did it to keep ketting pressies...... as long as i never admitted to knowing the truth they had to give santy presents, got to 13 that way. my cousin beat me though, managed to convince her parents til she was 18

hotandbothered · 09/11/2006 11:56

Yep definitely. Thought Santa booty would dry up instantly if i said anything. Sister knew I knew so it was our secret for a couple of years. Parents probably knew fine well looking back

cremolafoam · 09/11/2006 11:59

dd is 11 and her belief is unfaltering. Its about the pressies -she knows very well SC is a big fat lie

DH still gets presents from Santa (albeit in what looks suspiciously like his mother's handwriting and using the same wrapping paper that she does)...

hotandbothered · 09/11/2006 14:57

Our stockings only stopped when we had children ourselves...

Bozza · 09/11/2006 15:00

I did. But I did find it tedious when I was 15 and I had to wait in some camp bed at my grandparents while my Dad went to "see if he had been" before I could get into any of my presents.

PinkTulips · 09/11/2006 17:07

i still got a 'santa' present the year i was 8 months pregnant with dd my mom kept giving me little things from him even after i admitted to not believing..... albeit they weren't exactly normal santa presents, when i was 16 i got some designer thongs from santa due to my mom having made a trip to london right before xmas!
