We were persuaded (by my sister) to buy Baby Annabelle for DD on her 2nd birthday, to be honest I took some convincing as I thought it was too expensive and too heavy. How wrong I was!!
She goes everywhere with us, my DD now refers to me as baby's Grandma!
She loves her and it provides hours of imaginative play. She never really switches her on but somehow the fact that she knows she cries seems to make her stand apart from her other dolls.

DD got Baby Annabel when she was very little and adored her. Couple of years on she is still played with regularly, although even DD turns her sound off nowadays!

However, DD likes her other, and cheaper, dolls just as much.

Corelle do some nice non-interactive type dolls.

These are wonderful dolls

corolle

All I had as a girl and still around waiting for me to have a little girl to pass them on to! Not the cheapest around but so well made, proper dolls rather than stiff plastic crying/laughing/fashion dolls. Even if you don't get one, get the catalogue and dream a little!

ooops crossed posts

agree, my parents have just bought corolle dolls for my DTs and they are lovely - proper dolls!

maggiesmama · 06/11/2006 22:14

where'd you buy them?

My dd loves Tiny Tears! Referred to as 'heavy doll' she is the one out of many who is played with over and over. My only complaint is it's very difficult to find accessories for it - cheap tho' if we can't buy more stuff

We bought our 2 yo a Baby Millie from ELC (£25 plus free accessories) for her birthday and she is more than capable of carrying it about etc. It's similar size/weight to Baby Annabelle.

ELC also do Silver Cross Prams from £25. They're brill - my 5yo has sat in it and it's still not broken!

The link Indith posted has details. I think my parents ordered them from America - bless them!

Indith · 07/11/2006 09:25

Good English Toy shops do have them. We always used to have the catalogue at home, but maybe that came from France......

The link is to the American site, the English one being under construction I thought it might be easier than the French!

I really like the Groovy Girls and found this website selling them at £3.99, even with postage, cheaper than the shops.

DD had one for Christmas when she was 3.5 but she really likes it now (she's 5.5). Not a baby doll tho.

I hate and detest Baby Annabelle and in fact sold a played-with-once one at a car boot recently rather than give it to DD! I'm so mean aren't I! (FWIW DH agreed with me). I know they love it but it's £30 which is a bit much IMHO. A simpler baby doll is just as popular here, as Hula says.

hulababy · 07/11/2006 20:22

Oooh, might have to have a look Clary. DD loves Groovy Girls dolls having got one for her birthday. She has bought some for her friend's birthdays this year I'll have to have a look on that site for some more birthday presents coming up and for DD's stocking filler!

hulababy · 07/11/2006 20:23

Our local independent toy shop sells the corolle dolls.

Clary · 08/11/2006 01:00

Yes, Hula, good site. I bought two Groovy Girl dolls with another lot of stuff I ordered (thought I might as well). Just remembered I have them actually, ooops, bang that on the Christmas list then!
