Well DS wants it up now!

When I was a kid it was always after 19th and that was sis's birthday.

We leave on 20th to go to Dublin for Xmas so will prob put up week before. Having friends over on the 9th though so will have to be the day before taht I suppose.

Advent calendar on the 1st Dec
Mary and Joseph with a few assorted farm animals get bunged on some available space on the 22nd Dec ( Baby Jesus added to the manger on Christmas Day along with some shepherds !!) and the tree goes up on the 22nd too!

anniebear · 06/11/2006 13:34

close to 1st Dec as poss, but not in Nov!

Nemo1977 · 06/11/2006 13:36

Tends to be first weekend in dec.

SpaceCadet · 06/11/2006 13:38

2nd weekend in de cember

FawkesBride · 06/11/2006 13:44

Always after the 18th as that's DHs birthday. And as close to Christmas Eve as I can get, depending on how busy we are.

And they all come down by 12th night.

Putting them up in November is outrageous!!!

Used to have a rule that you could put them up after 1 December, but now dss has his birthday on 11 December, so after that...

UCM · 06/11/2006 16:04

Mine are up already

UCM · 06/11/2006 16:04

In my mind that is

StrawberryMoon · 06/11/2006 16:09

we're putting our up a week on sunday..went to strikes garden centre yesterday and really got into spirit

rustybear · 06/11/2006 16:35

We always put ours up on 11th December which is DH's birthday

kimi · 06/11/2006 17:10

first weekend in December and it takes 2 days

guyfawkesHEIFERgy · 06/11/2006 17:26

21st December as DD Bday 2oth.. and like to keep it separate...

nikkie · 06/11/2006 19:34

We do them after dd1s b'day which is the 16th.

VanillaMilkshake · 06/11/2006 19:49

used to be 2 weeks before Christmas, but as I have a baby due around that time this year it will be after baby has arrived, unless is getting too late. In future years I will try to make it after baby birthday so birthday and Christmas can be kept seperate.

have to say once Boxing day has passed and ready to take them down and reclaim the lounge again, although we normally hold out till New Years Day for DD's sake.

HazelnutHazelnutsTree · 06/11/2006 19:53

We have been putting them up after 5th November but last year I done it in December a bit at a time.

This year I hope to have them up for DD birthday which is the 17th November. But now that I have only just home from being in hospital and still nowhere near 100% I don't know if this will be possible now
We have a fair bit that goes outside for christmas and loads for inside.

FillyjonkTheFireEater · 06/11/2006 19:54

have cunning plan to obtain tree at end of november and put a decoration on each day

may or may not suceed

we don't have that many decorations. Maybe paper stars or suchlike.

nikkie · 07/11/2006 20:50

Scrap my last date of after 16th , DD2 had teh nativity figures out already and they are set up in the fairy castle with the star stuck on the wall above, baby Jesus is visited by3 wise men, some shepards, a couple of animals, some fairies, some pirates and HArry Potter

notagrannyyet · 07/11/2006 21:22

DH has always insisted that you shouldn't 'dress' the tree until 24th Dec. The rest of us have always ignored him. DC would love to put the tree up on the 1st DEc along with the advent calendars (we have collected several over the years!) Normally we wait until the weekend before Christmas.

7up · 07/11/2006 21:28

1st day december then down straight after new year. hate the decs after boxing, would like to take them down then if i was allowed

BudaBeast · 08/11/2006 05:27

An honest question.

Why put Xmas decs up in November? Hasn't the novelty worn off by Xmas? Isn't everything dusty?

November isn't XMAS!!!

wangle99 · 08/11/2006 07:24

We put ours up early but take them down pretty soon after Christmas itself.

As for putting them up, definately up by the 1st of December but we usually have a bit of a party to celebrate switching them on (yep we are one of those sad people that has lights all over the outside) which has been on the last weekend in November.

We decorate our house outside along with our neighbours (absolutely chavtastically I hasten to add) and every year, DH & NDN's DH have the same argument. NDN wants to put up the first weekend in Dec but DH doesn't want to do it until nearer Christmas. As much as the children love the lights, I agree with DH. Should be a week before or thereabouts.
