Presents that did NOT impress...

Thought it might be fun to discover if anyone else's OH had such unromantic ideas as mine for presents: in the past I've had a saw for trimming the buddleia (before we were even living together!), a toilet seat(!), a water filter jug, a plastic cheese dish, tumblers, a cake slice, low-energy light bulbs, a butter dish, metal water bottle, men's pyjamas (which, not surprisingly, didn't fit properly)...get the picture?? Anyone got an OH with similar passion-killing ideas??

my colleague plans to buy his partner a stepladder and a new hoover for christmas!

cece · 04/11/2006 10:36

FIL bought my MIL a pressure washer one year for christmas.

DH bought me an aerobics mat once.

Not for Christmas.........but for a birthday, electric toothbrush anyone ??

BettySpaghetti · 04/11/2006 10:48

Our neighbour bought his wife a meat thermometer for her birthday -don't think she was impressed!

moljam · 04/11/2006 10:50

ive been given a mop and bucket, potato peeler and colinder.seriously.

ShowOfWhizzBangHands · 04/11/2006 10:54

I can't fault DH's present buying skills, my mother on the other hand! Last year she bought me a peg bag and a lemon reamer (although it was amusing when DH picked up the lemon reamer and exclaimed 'ooh a butt plug')!

I thought it was lovely when my DH gave me a weekend away at Castle Leslie, just the two of us. Imagine my suprise to find that it apparently has the best pike fishing in Ireland. I ended up spending the weekend freezing my bottom off in a john boat. I could have murdered him.

My dp bought me a microwave for Valentines day! wasn't impressed to say the least. Typical bloke.

redsky · 04/11/2006 12:57

I've had the pleasure of receiving a hoover for my birthday - TWICE! Obviously I didn't show my displeasure forcefully enough the first time.
Have also had the men's pjs, kitchen equipment (which I was actually really pleased with!)
Oh - and I've given dh an electric toothbrush and gardening stuff too. We're the original romantics!grin]

My friend got a toilet tent!

WelshBorisSaysFawkeOff · 05/11/2006 13:12

I'm buying my boyfriend a pressure washer and a george foreman this year

Hope he doesnt post a message like this on the forum he goes on!!

"guess what she bought me?- a fecking george formby"

treacletart · 05/11/2006 13:23

ex boyfriend once gave me a potato masher and a litle cactus with an artificially coloured dried flower stuck on it.

joelallie · 05/11/2006 14:29

Wellie liners and blank videos one year. Since then he's been pretty damn perfect in the present buying area - although Father Christmas has slipped the odd potato peeler into my stocking (but I think the poor old codger struggles a bit with all those little pressies for me).

cheeryface · 05/11/2006 18:17

a couple of years ago i recieved a back scratcher and a washing line !
then, hoping that the presents ds1 and ds2 ( obviously bought and wrapped by dh) were proffering would be better, i opened one pyjama top and one pyjama bottoms. they had snowmen or something on them !

cheeryface · 05/11/2006 18:19

dh also thinks it's absolutely hilarious to buy a small present and wrap it up in a huge box hmmmmmm

i got wellies last year, each wrapped seperately..

WigWamBam · 05/11/2006 18:21

For our first Valentine's day, I took dh to Paris. He got me ... a torch for my car.

He obviously inherited his present-buying gene from his mother

themoon66 · 05/11/2006 18:58

I too have to suffer the tiny present in massive box thing coz DH thinks it is hillarious. Worse present so far has been a car polishing kit from Halfords.
