DD likes animals but not dolls. I'd like to get her one really "nice" thing for Xmas. Suggestions?

How about one of those puppies or kittens that moves and barks/miaows.

Folkmanis make fabulous hand puppets. They have a website - I'll find you a link - but you also findthem in shops.

2 black labradors? both female, both housetrained?

will gladly accept £50.

my 2year old ds has a donkey puppet and an eagle,he loves em. idont know what to get my ds as a main present, very small house but at xmas you feel you have to get a big pressie and smaller ones dont you. my sisters dd is 5 and shes into the pretend post office counters about £10 or the cashiers/food sets £10

hovely · 19/10/2006 10:49

I guess you don't have to spend it all!!
I fall into the trap of buying too many little things, which mount up too fast. But in truth my DD has no idea what things cost (she is 5) and just likes things for themselves.
For her birthday next month she will be getting:
from me and DH:
pop-up princess castle (OK she may be a touch old for this now, but it was off ebay so no great loss)
watch (basic and simple)
small toy guitar (about £15 and very playable)

and from DS, not that he knows it yet:
a fur-real baby animal

The ELC kitchen?
Comes with about 50 accesories as well.

woodpop · 19/10/2006 12:28

How about a wooden farmyard??

LIZS · 19/10/2006 12:43

How about a Britains farm with animals etc or a wooden version like this or Sylvanian families

flack · 19/10/2006 21:54

Thanks for the ideas. Anyone else welcome to hijack, if it would help you.

I am not sure about puppets. Maybe a farm set up, though. We saw some animonotronic toys today (kittens that purr and open/close their eyes). Bit like having a feature out of a Stephen King novel in your house, but I think DD might take to it. They can cost £20 or more, each.

yes, I know what you mean about the Stephen King thing.
The little ones are quite appealing, I think. As posted below I went for a baby leopard, somewhere around £12 in ToysRUs.
But the life-size cat would absolutely freak me out!

bubblez · 24/10/2006 14:20

How about this dog hope it works
or this cat

or if she is a little bit of a tomboy like my dd this robot hope that they work.

VanillaMilkshake · 24/10/2006 14:32

ToysRUs are currently selling large horses and ponies in natural and fantasy colours - I think they are £50. In fact the horses can also be sat on as they stand upright - trouble is that's about all you can do.

Alternatively how about those fur-real chimps that have a banana bottle. They look great - have been eyeing one up for my DD.

pammo · 25/10/2006 22:57

How about a Didi/Sway/Magic Roller Car? I got my son one recently for his birthday - He's 3 but these are suitable for older kids so will last a few years!
