If you buy a 'thing' you never know if it's something the person wants unless they've mentioned something. I'd go for various vouchers for manicures, beauty treatments, meal out, massage etc - a treat that people wouldn't normally have. You can wrap the voucher up in a box so it's an attractive gift.

mag subscriptions are good - plus if you have tesco vouchers you can use these, so free pressies! also they tend to for far less vouchers than the subscription should be. We did this last year and people were very happy with them -although they didn't know about the tesco bit!

If you've got a retired couple among them, an annual English Heritage membership, which gets ou into any of their places free, is £42.

watches are good presents as are mags

I like pedlars for unusual gifts

or just buy food, posh preserves and chocolate and so on. Everyone likes food, surely?
