I'm glad you wrote this Katy. I treated myself to an eternity ring yesterday. Dh gave me money towards a very sensible car but I hadn't planned on him helping me out with it so used some of the money,

It's two tone white and yellow gold and really pretty.

This year, I've bought myself a few presents on the quiet to wrap up from 'Santa'. My partner hasn't bought a single present yet, it's quite liberating knowing there are going to be some little things under the tree I really want/like even of I did buy them myself!

I'd lost so much weight (due to ill health) that my wedding & engagement rings weren't safe to wear any more - it took the jewelers ages to find a ring small enough for me that wasn't a child's ring.

This year the computer is almost a business expense - if I hadn't got one for Christmas i'd have had to buy one soon anyway

I've chisen some lovely gold earrings to replace the ones I've lost.

I've bought all my own presents too
If I left it to DH I'd have a pair of socks and some chocolate in a stocking!
Instead, I have a beautiful real leather satchel, some new earrings and some new hair rollers. I am VERY excited.

I buy my own presents too. My husband is so amazing, but when it comes to buying presents he gets panicky and buys the first thing he sees. He also spends a fortune and its not really worth it (think big hampers of cosmetics I never use). So I buy what I want, he wraps it and he buys me some little treats for my stocking. He feels safe with that, as I do have something I actually want under the tree if he fucks it up!

I've bought myself the Star Trek original series boxset for my DH to wrap and give to me on Christmas Day.

He's a terrible present buyer - goes for vouchers as the panic sets in and he doesn't want to get it wrong. So now I just buy it myself and hand it over.

He's a very lovely man and shows how much he cares in a million other ways every day so I don't care if he's incapable of buying the right gift!

I sent my dh my Amazon wish list, we also went shopping so I could chose a new camera, I don't mind that there are no surprises, at least we know that we will like our presents .

I agree that sacrificing a surprise for something that you do want is the best way to go. Then both of you are happy!

My DH is never going to buy me the sentimental loving things I crave, so this year I've bought them myself. I am looking forward to Christmas very much now.
