Inexpensive ideas, under £40. Not into much but gaming, pc! Quite a young 12 year old. Help!

Trainers
Alarm clock (Ds aged 13 is getting one this year as he's a bugger to get up in the morning!)
Books - Guinness book of records. Ripleys believe it or not
DVD
MP3 player
Deck of cards and a book with card games - went down very well with Ds last year.

Little hand held puzzles so he has something to fiddle with when watching TV

I have a very similar thread
[http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/Christmas/2252372-help-12-year-old-ds-no-Christmas-ideas?msgid=51157497#51157497 my thread]

lots of ideas there.

Suicide bunnies book
Sharpies
SnapBack cap
Gameboy and old retro games
Huge whiteboard and non-permanent markers
DIY supplies so he can decorate his own room

GooseyLoosey · 09/12/2014 15:07

Really complex marble run - you can great ones off Amazon with lifts and that light up. Ds (11) thought his was fab.

Ds loves his pen knife and he is getting a book on how to whittle for Christmas to go with it.

Still loves nerf guns.

There is an alarm clock in the WH Smith Gadget shop that tells you the weather and stuff for the day. Ds is getting that too.

The latest Bop It game. £14.99 at Toys R Us

www.toysrus.co.uk/Toys-R-Us/Toys/Games/Games/Bop-It-Beats(0128369)

Have got my 12 year old that, Vaporizr remote controlled car, a Diary of a Wimpy Kid board game, (cheap) bean bag and some DVDs to bulk out a small pile (compared to much younger siblings.)

It's a credit card sized computer to help kids learn about programming etc

INFO here - have a nosey round that website, there's all the info you need

Amazon sell them - they are about £35 - There is also a manuel with different projects in for about £5 here Smile

Neverenoughhoursintheday · 10/12/2014 21:38

Thanks furball, have you got a raspberry pi - it looks complicated (to me!) probably not my ds!

Would you need a raspberry pi if you already had a computer? What does it actually do?

Furball · 11/12/2014 06:25

Another thread about the Raspberry Pi here

and here

and if you have a nosey round the raspberry pi website

steppeupunderthemisletoe · 12/12/2014 12:31

my dh is a computery type and he says that you don't need a raspberry pi if you have a pc.

I am unconvinced, as I think it is probably more accessible. A bit like you don't need a tablet if you have a laptop, but actually people find the tablet more flexible.
