Why aren't my bloody pomanders smelling?

Is it because they haven't properly dried out yet?

I'm a pomander virgin; this is my first go at making them. I have two big fat oranges covered in cloves and expected them to make my house living room smell like Christmas. At the moment they're just sitting there looking sorry for themselves.

Do I just need to be patient? They're about two weeks old.
