Can anyone help with good box set suggestions please?

My brother (mid forties) has suggested I buy him a box set of gritty drama. I don't watch a lot of TV so I don't know what's good. I know he used to watch CSI, so maybe something along those lines. I don't mind how much it costs, he is always overly generous and I also owe him a birthday present.
Thanks in advance.

If he hasn't seen it, the first series of 24.

Breaking bad, it's brilliant but not at all like csi.

The Killing or The Bridge (Danish with subtitles) are also great

MajesticWhine · 03/12/2014 21:11

thanks. Anyone seen The Walking dead? What's that like?

Another vote for breaking bad or the killing.
The wire
Boardwalk empire
Currently enjoying house of cards on netflix but not sure whether it is available on DVD

Would he go for French cop shows (subtitled). Bracquo and Spiral are both gritty - the first about bad cops, the second about not so bad cops and lawyers. Lots of gangsters, drugs, violence.

Or Sons of Anarchy - US motorcycle gang drama, again pretty violent but also funny. DH loved it.

Just checked, you can get house of cards on amazon

Few of my dh's favs are the blacklist, the walking dead, dexter, breaking bad, broadwalk empire and Hannibal.

I've just got him sons of anarchy for christmas, I saw on hotukdeals they have the seasons 1-4 dvd for £14.99 and sure there's also a 10% off code aswell.

I kind of fancy watching The Walking Dead myself. I had no idea it existed until today, but I like Andrew Lincoln. Dexter looks good for my bro...

Dexter was hands down dh's fav shortly followed by breaking bad. Think he let out a little sob when them shows ended Hmm.

A one that I've wanted to start watching that I've never got around to is without a trace.
Homeland is also supposed to be quite good.

iseenodust · 03/12/2014 22:14

Thanks people. I've ordered Sons of Anarchy for my DB.

saiyme09 · 03/12/2014 22:17

Sherlock Holmes?

bigbutsrus1 · 04/12/2014 07:48

Homelands! I am totally gripped!

mabelbabel · 04/12/2014 09:37

What about Fargo (the series, not the film). That was pretty raw!

Ainmnua · 04/12/2014 09:39

Love /Hate is a brilliant drama. We stayed up til the wee hours to watch "just one more episode".

Lifesalemon · 04/12/2014 15:45

Breaking Bad or Sons of Anarchy have both been recommended to me recently.
